I effed up fellas. Last night the game was 5-0 so I said man this isn't a good game if we just steam roll this thing and just like that Verlander showed his true post season form.

    Apologies.

CHEATING AGAIN. ASTROS MALDONADO USES ILLEGAL BAT IN GAME 1.

Always love the "everybody does it" argument. If there are 100 episodes of cheating in the NFL but the Patriots are the guilty party 99 times that does not mean everybody does it. MLB constantly has cheating issues but the Astros are the guilty team virtually every time. Give them credit though, after a dozen incidents and they still just get the "You Better Stop" speech by the spineless MLB.

Do you even know what happened or did you just read a headline somewhere?

Albert Puhols used the same bat in every game he played this year.

Any idea how he was able to do that?

Grandfathered in when they made the rule change. I heard the segment when it aired live, the transcript is below.

I don't believe Maldonado was knowingly cheating. And don't think MLB does either or they would have done more than make him change his bat.

"Martin Maldonado is using a different bat today here in Game 2. He found out from MLB today that the bat he used last night was not a legal bat. It was a model he obtained from Albert Pujols, and he used it because he thought it was very similar in size and weight to his own model. The barrel, he said, was slightly bigger. He also thought it was a way to honor the baseball legend, of course retiring with the close of the season, but here's the catch to it, guys: in 2010, Major League Baseball changed the bat specifications and that bat that Pujols modeled was no longer, except if you were playing prior to 2010 it was grandfathered. So Albert Pujols could use that bat but Maldonado, who began his major league career in 2011, was not legally able to use that bat."

Aww man, you gave it away.:D

Muldonados friend Puhols gave Muldonado his bat. The bat was outlawed in 2010 but anyone playing before 2010 can still use the bat. Muldonado started in 2011 so he can't use it. He simply didn't know. Hardly cheating.

An if it was cheating, pretty sure there would have been some suspension handed out.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most is this... PEDs, juiced equip, etc. will always be a part of professional and high level amateur sports. Yet, folks get treated differently to the tune of destroying reputations and careers... Case in point:

Pete Rose, one of the hardest charging and greatest athletes to ever the play gets banned from ever having the chance of being elected to the Hall of Fame due to the "betting scandal", which for those that don't know, only amounted to him betting on his own team to win; not 'throwing games' or doing anything else to alter the outcome... just for putting his own money on the table that his own team would win.

I just not real clear on what message is being sent to other players or the public in general for what they did to Pete Rose, especially in light of how I can't turn on an MLB game anymore w/o hearing about how I can bet on all aspects of the game through Draft Kings. One minute were slamming the behavior, the next minute we're pushing it down your throat.

Oh well, sorry for the rant!!!!!

Agree with you. Really messed up when you compare the two situations. It would be real bad if Bonds was put into the hall of Fame.

As a long time Giants fan, since the days of Clark, Mitchell, Williams batting 3-4-5, I was a Bonds fan when he joined them.

I lost all respect for him after the PED stuff came out. The thing is, I'm sure he would have still went down as one of the all time greatest without them. Unless he was using during his slimmer 30/30 days as well.

Even though Fred McGriff didn't make the HoF, he's still one of my all time favorites from that time, along with Griffey Jr. Clean, trouble free and consistent. These guys would have risen even higher during that time, had it not been for all the guys juiced up stealing the spotlight with jacked numbers. What a shame, as it was a great time for BB with a lot of stars.

I agree. If drugs alone made someone a superstar, we would all be pro athletes. However, it doesn't work like that. It just elevates professionals to an 'elite' level. You still need genetics, foundation, training and heart!

I'm sure I'm way over-thinking this, but I look at the impact across the board (not just for those who did or didn't use) and wonder how much impact those times had on the game in general. Athletes will always use drugs to get an edge over other competitors. However, what about the sport itself? We now have an era where less than 15 players a year are hitting over .300; the running game (SBs, Hit and Runs, squeeze plays and even laying down a bunt) is almost obsolete.

The focus is no longer on station to station ball play w/the 1 or 2 HRs a game if you're lucky, to 5-10 HRs per game and often w/bases empty. There was much discussion and debate about MLB 'juicing' the balls for a couple of years to spike fan interest back into the game. Statistical focus on launch angles, exit velocity, how to read ball spin to know when a slider is coming in; all of which increase the chance of hitting an HR are now the mainstream. Currently the focus is still on the long ball, but HR distances have significantly decreased since they started cracking down on PEDs. I think we had one or two over 500' this year, yet back in the Sosa, McGuire, Canseco, Bonds, era, it was almost disappointing if the HR fell short of 500'...

Oh well, every aspect of life including sports, performance both human and mechanical, etc. will always continue to evolve... sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse!

I still think Bonds is an all time top 10 player and should be in the Hall of Fame along with Rose.

Corrected my mistake and didn't watch the game tonight...look what happened! 5-0 shutout and a no-no to boot! Insane! Looks like I'm done watching this WS real-time but the DVR is gonna catch it all for me.

Yeah, it was game over early with that pitching ...but worth staying up for the no hitter.
