Front porch. It took a while for this one. I was taking care of my father. He had Alzheimer's and I could only get an hour or so here and there. I called 30 different people to give me prices. 3 showed up, one said it was too big of a job, another gave me a price of $50k and anothers said he would only frame it out . So two backhoe rentals and a Mason for the block work. Yellow pine tongue and grove. I made everything else. Ceiling is cedar with spar varnish photo 3-2.jpg photo 2.jpg photo 4-1.jpg photo 5.jpg 20170707_062256.jpg 20170704_141119.jpg

Still have to pour a pad and build the steps

Of course I didn't post how many hours you put into projects. The livingroom, back den area and back bedroom did not have ceiling lights. I remember that the pot lights in the dining was an all day affair. Had to run a line all the way from the box because of not wanting to overload another circuit. I also didn't show building a wall in the dining room for insulation and installing a new double pane window. So the fan count is 5 new fan/lights that had to be hung. 6 built in lights, and a light in the coffee bar. And a wire run for the ceiling light on the porch

Made someone smile, my day's been a success. She chose a color that imparts a sense of warmth.
There's more to building a house than mere appearance and since we spend a lot of our time in our houses why not create something truly inviting, calming and serene? I have 2 lighting schemes. One that's a 2,700k LED scheme for generally being able to see everything and a second that's a dim gold for warmth and ambiance. I like to plant things like citrus outside the kitchen window, Jasmine, Wisteria and others outside of window to appeal to the olfactory sense. I use Mahogany and other soft, smooth textures that beckon you to touch them. Water features outside are great for the sense of hearing. I just haven't figured out how to make people wanna lick stuff....LOL
I've been building waaay too long, studied and thought waaay too much about it.

Got the same one, Works great if the thermal switch is working. First day I used it took 2 1/2 hours to remove 1/4" off two boards. Would shut off 1/2 way thru each board. Gonna pull the 18 amp switch and either replace or bypass. on a 20 amp service line.

    Here’s a couple pieces I made:EDB3EA05-AB65-46EA-8963-5E00981DA59C.jpg
The tall curio cabinet was made from some 110year old shelving I salvaged from the historic restoration of a county courthouse.
The captains bed was made (except for the 4 vertical corners) from 1x4 maple lap siding that was salvaged from a remodel of the entrance lobby of the AZ House of Representatives.

The tiny black dots are the old nail holes, left untreated for character. I ran everything through my planer and smoothed the edges square. Biscuit joined everything back together for the pieces I needed. The drawer pulls are also salvaged from historical work, about 120years old.

Since this thread seems to combine woodworking with home remodeling, here is a couple more pictures of stuff that I built from the same jobs:
    DC3CC78F-4698-4F10-BE61-4408B888B6D1.jpg
The stamped tin was from the courthouse job and the maple used for the bar was from the House of Representatives remodels.
The big pieces of the bar edge were from left over pieces of railing we made for the caucus rooms. The round over is the biggest router bit I own. 1 1/2”r. Pretty scary to run this beast.

This was all for the pool room I added to my last house.

That tin ceiling is absolutely stunning! I'm afraid to build a bar in my house.. the temptation to use it is too great.

Thinking about building a table like this. I wanna make one for my miter saw anyway so figured why not tie in the table saw too. I can make an insert for where the miter saw goes when I need the full surface. I may even make the opposite end into a router table I think it's a pretty cool idea.

At least you don’t have the dilemma of being drunk and driving home! I have slept under the pool table a few times...
The tin ceiling is a pretty complex install. I was fortunate to have been involved in several historical restoration projects where we encountered this. First thing I had to do was sandblast off the old lead paint.

I'm fortunate that I have a 24x60 garage/shop with 10' ceilings. I am going to have to do the remodeling all over again when we move... weeeeeeeeeee

Sounds like a nice shop. I’m probably gonna pull the trigger this week on a 30 x 60 metal building. With engineering, permits and Oregon rains, I probably won’t be done till after July. Then I’ve gotta build shelving, benches and fab tables. Probably won’t get my tools unpacked and reassembled till next fall. Not having a shop is driving this old man crazy.

My benches are made out of all rough cut lumber. 4x4 uprights bolted to the concrete floor with full 2x's bolted to the walls. Covered with 2" oak

I would love to have a shop like that.
I will build my table from rough cut lumber and pallets with an MDF top. I also plan to make a DIY cyclone dust collector and hook it up to an old shop vac, it should stow under the miter saw area pretty well

I have the 1000mm. Its great. It has a learning curve as far as software goes. The Easel software that they offer is complete garbage imo. I use Vcarve. I've got a full woodshop and cnc shop. Getting ready to move to my new proprty with a 20x40 shop and cant wait!

Some of the work I've done with it.

    Great looking work!
    Some questions:
    • Did you find Inventables a reputable company to deal with?
    • How long did it take to arrive after ordering?
    • How long it take to assemble?
    • How long did it take to calibrate it?
    • Have you had to replace the waste board? If yes, how hard is it to do and what recalibration is necessary?
    • What DeWalt router do you have?
    • Is there anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance for your input!!

    • Did you find Inventables a reputable company to deal with?
Inventables has been great. They make a great quality product and their customer service is amazing. If you have an issue with a broken part or something damaged, they will overnight you a new part at no cost to you.
    • How long did it take to arrive after ordering?
If I remember correctly it took about 4 weeks for the first boxes to arrive. 5-6 weeks for everything. I ordered mine around christmas time 2017, that could be part of the delay.
    • How long it take to assemble?
Took me about 5 hours, this was also due to getting more beer and wife/kids distracting. Beer is a very important step.
    • How long did it take to calibrate it?
Calibrating is incredibly easy. Check out designsbyphil.com he has alot of great information and upgrade information available. I calibrated mine in about an hour. The only thing I didnt do was any tramming or wasteboard surfacing. The bench I built is level and I adjusted the rails to get the gantry as level as I could by eye with the wasteboard. I will eventually resurface and tram when I get to the new shop.
    • Have you had to replace the waste board? If yes, how hard is it to do and what recalibration is necessary?
I havent replaced my wasteboard yet. But from what i've read in my cnc groups on FB, its not terribly difficult.
    • What DeWalt router do you have?
I have the dewalt 611. Use it on setting 1, you should never have to go above that. I have about 30 hours on mine and have not had to replace the brushes yet. Changing the brushes is incredibly easy and cheap. And it can be done in the middle of a carve if need be.
    • Is there anything else I should know?
The starter bit set is good to start with but you'll eventually want to upgrade from there. I would recommend Amana Tools or Whiteside Bits. Especially if you're looking for vcarve bits. I dont recommend inventable vcarve bit as they are shitty quality from china.

One of the first things you'll need to do if you plan on 2 stage carving is adjust your torque settings. Check designsbyphil.com , he shows how to do this. This will lock the motors without slipping when changing bits for a 2 stage carve. This helps so you dont lose your zero or steps in the carve.

    Hope this helps!

Heres the difference between the Inventables Vbit and a Whiteside Vbit.

all this talk about woodworking made me decide to just bite the bullet and buy a planer. I considered a few but the convenience of a lunchbox is hard to say no to. Further, I was thinking about picking up a recon one from ebay when the next coupon shows up but for shits and giggles looked the other day - couldn't believe it when i found a brand new one for $455... It showed up today and was the 735X with the outfeed wings and a spare set of blades... I keep having to check my paypal to make sure they don't come and charge me for the rest of it...

I tried to find the link to share but i may well have got the last one.. The seller was cpo-outlets in case any of you care and want to hunt for your own - it was one of the places where you get to see the price once it's in your cart

I built this from scratch. No plans. I cut down a redwood tree and milled it than built this and lots more.

Anyone know anything about the Shapeoko XXL system? It looks sturdier that the X-Carve.
Still trying to decide which one to get. Decisions, decisions!!

This is a second hand dresser, cleaned up, new handles and drawer rails, original knobs.
The mirror was discarded and replaced with home cut rod holders.
