07 Tundra 4x4 won't go in gear. No R no D, but when shifting back to park I get a grinding noise. Any ideas?

Do you have dash lights blinking? Do you have a code reader? Grinding sound is never good. Can you post a sound clip?

How many miles? Tow a lot? Sounds like a linkage issue

Mileage is over 250,000 unit does not tell very frequently but on occasion. Did not think about the linkage but that sounds like it could certainly be in the right direction.

My 08 did that one winter morning when I was trying to shift out of 4 lo after driving through a bunch of wet slushy stuff the night before. It was like the actuator was frozen. Would not move no matter what I tried. I can't remember which 4wd lights were flashing. I just let it run for a while to warm up and when I went back out I was able to get it back into 2WD and get it shifted fine after that. Never had the problem again.

I think it was the low/high actuator at the transfer case was frozen is all I could figure. The 2wd/4wd actuator is in the front axle so it would not cause this kind of issue.

I would look at the the actuator on the transfer case.
