If it is a wireless charging capable phone yes it will work. The all use the industry standard QI charges like this one.

Yea I leave mine plugged in all the time. And if it does pull power it’s minimal, and it will only power with the truck turned on

Hey guys I like this idea, I’ve been looking to figure out how to do this to my tundra then I found this thread!

So how has your wireless chargers been? I’m thinking about actually using the first one you used initially because of the “fast charge” compatibility at 10w because my gf has a s8 and she can use the fast charge even though my iPhone X can’t fast charge yet until a quality 7.5w charger comes out.

Was there problems with the first charger connecting since it was only 1 coil? Also when it moved around would it disconnect the charge? I’m just wondering because I’d like to go with the fast charger with 1 coil vs the standard charger with 3 coils.

    Thanks!

The first one I used with the single coil yes it could disconnected when using a thicker case. I had ordered a few chargers to try for the truck and work and such. and i had 2 flat ones, and i grabbed one and put it in and realized it was the single, but it did still work. then the next weekend when i had free time, i swapped it with the 3 coil and took the top off the charger so the coils were closer to the lid. I've been running it for a few weeks now and it is working great with no issues.

Awesome thanks. So for the original charger with the 1 coil, it would only disconnect with a thicker case? How about moving the phone around while in that little area our tundras have for phones, would it disconnect then?

I’m not worried about the case much as I use a very thin case. I’m more worried about the phone disconnecting as I’m driving down the road with the phone sliding around in that “phone area” in our tundras.

No other than with the otterbox on, I didn't have any issue really. I tried moving the phone around with a regular case on and it did just fine.

FYI, I bought the same 3 coil charger in this thread. I have a thin clear case on my S8. Mine disconnects if it slides to the far right or far left while driving. Seems fine on the highways, but city driving when it slides it disconnects all the time.

That’s very odd. I haven’t had any issues like that myself. So your seems to need to be almost dead center for charging to start then.

Not sure. My iPhone has no issues. Can you take a photo of your setup. Did you remove the board from the case?

Thanks for the post. Great idea, tried it and it works. My only complaint is that the charger takes forever to charge the phone. Not sure if it's because it's a cheap charger or because of the the plastic divider of the arm rest and the phone cover. Anyone able to get the charger to charge their phone a bit faster ?

Wireless is slower than plugged in. It might be that.

When I got ready to do this mod, I purchased several chargers to do some testing.. I was already familiar with the Choetech as we have several of them in the house already.. In my testing, none of my other chargers performed like the 3 coil one. I did some testing with the chargers and different padding between the phone and the chargers. I got the largest distance on the 3coil.

I have no agenda here.. I am just offering my experience. I have had zero problems with my phone disconnecting.. I have the Samsung S8+ which has a fairly large footprint.. so it doesn't have a ton of space to move around.. but I have never had it not connect and charge. Also I did not remove the charger from its original case. If it wouldn't have worked that well I would have gone back and done that.. but things have been good enough that there was no need.

Looking at the Amazon descriptions, it seems that the fast charger has only one coil (no mention otherwise). My Note 8 supports fast charging so now I have a dilemma on which charger to use.

Wireless charging is naturally slower. But one thing I have Ben considering is maybe the power source, mine is via usb splitter. I may look into a fast charge cable or hardware like smoosh did in his.

Nice writeup.. I thing I would like to suggest. I dont trust the black tape to hold that device on the underside of the console surface. Especially in the heat (I live in the deep south). I am not a fan of gluing the chargers to the underside of the console either as that seems a little to permanent to me.. One thing I did, I used tape just like you, but when I cut the plastic out for the charger, I cut the little plastic vertical blades at an angle, so that the charger can sort of wedge up underneath them. The last thing I did, was I used the two big screws on each side of the charger to run a strap across the back. It was as simple as pulling the screws out, stretching a strap from one screw to the other, and piercing the strap as I put the bolts back in.

    Just a thought.

Just installed mine today. I put the choetech 3 coil wireless charger as many of you did. I noticed that my iPhone X has to be RIGHT over my charger or it doesn’t work, so much for the 3 coils. Also noticed that my device slides around, doesn’t disconnect but not sure why, it should because it won’t connect unless it’s in the “sweet spot”. Also noticed that my phone slides around a lot as always, I’m looking to install some grips on the ribs on the outside where we put our phones.

Thats odd, My iPhone X seems to pick up as soon as i set it in there. As for the sliding around yea I suggest some thin drawer liner, or a thin piece of leather works and looks good. I have also seen someone use rubber coating spray on that part.

Don't you want to get your phone as close to the charger as possible? If you're willing to put a pad on top of the console pocket, you might as well just put the charging pad there. Instead of a non-slip pad, it might work better to come up with some kind of bumper that can be run down the sides of the pocket to keep the phone from sliding while maintaining close contact with the charger underneath. Just a thought..

Just did this mod to my truck today, Toyota definitely should have put it in the tundra especially since they had it in the Tacoma’s. That’s the main reason I did it, went from a 16 sport to a 17 pro to my tundra.
