Other than unplugging it, is there a way to keep it from connecting if you don't want to use it that day?

I believe once it's connected you can just turn off your wifi and it will stay disconnected. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know!

Thanks. I think I tried that but it kept turning the wifi back on. I'll have to mess with it again as well.

No problem! I'm thinking you could go onto the wifi and turn off auto connect as well!

In iphone under Setting>>General >>Carplay >>Unpair. If you want it to not reconnect. But this will unpair and you will have to re-pair the next time you want to use it.

Just for clarification, I have a 2018 with factory headunit. No Android auto or caraway. Will this add/allow you to use Android auto? Or did it have to come with it from factory?

It has to come from the factory with built in carplay. Which I believe is 2019 +.

So it looks like if you just turn the Wi-Fi off it will disconnect. And as long as you don't hit the map botton it won't automatically come back up. But if you hit the map button it will automatically come back up. If you go into your Wi-Fi and click the little gear next Android auto and I'm deselect automatically connect it won't automatically connect if you don't want it to.

No problem, shouldn't matter what head unit you got as long as you disable the auto connect to the Android Auto wifi you should be all good!

Thank you! Been checking and they've all been scalped ones lately. Just placed the order - with prime it arrives May 5-8, so quite an advance order.

Tundra, can you walk me through your settings please? Mine works, but I have some bugs with it, IE: on start up, everything shows on the screen after about 15s but I have to power off\on the radio, then it’s fine. Any alerts will cause the same thing, driving directions, etc will cut the audio and I have to power on\off. I’ve had to mute google maps and not allow notifications in Android auto. I have mine plugged into the USB normally used physically connect the phone (closest to the driver) the other 2 my phone says connected but nothing happens on the HU.

Are you going into AA on the HU? It doesn't go into it automatically for me, it just shows the normal home screen with the Toyota Nav and Audio/Phone Number split screen thing. Is this what you mean?

I haven't had any issues with my unit connecting and doing what it should. It will automatically start up the audio from my phone and it will say the source as AA there. But if I want actual apps like Google Maps, I have to go into AA on the HU specifically.

When I start my vehicle, within 15 second AA starts on my screen perfectly, I just can't get audio until I manually power off/on the HU. Make sure in your AA settings to check automatically start when connected.

Yeah it's starts up automatically and connects and all, it just doesn't change the screen from the default. I don't have any issues with audio coming through at all.

Try a different USB. If you have 3, the closest to the driver

I'm not using USB exactly, I'm using the Motorola Wireless AA adapter. It is plugged into the only port that does AA.

Will this gadget cure my Wireless Android Auto woes?

On the Kenwood DMX1057 there is Android Auto but it must be manually started from the head unit after each startup. After a shutdown the system goes back to Idle mode and 'forgets' you had left it running. Apparently this is by design from Kenwood.

Not sure if have this 'wired' (yet wireless) device would fix that issue.

Doesn't sound like this would fix the Kenwood issue. It would just make it so you don't have to plug your phone in.

I already don't need to plug in my phone - the DMX is wireless. I _may_ also plug in my phone and if I do that, AA resume playing my music after I restart the car - just what I want.

So what I'm wondering is whether this wireless AA dongles makes the phone appear to be 'wired'.

It is meant to convert the standard "wired" AA to wireless. I'm not sure how it would interact with a HU that is already capable of wireless AA. So if your HU seems to do what you want when you plug your phone in, but not when connected wirelessly, it might work.

Alright folks, help me with your settings. I have pixel 6 pro. Within 30 seconds in connects to the head unit but does not automatically play . I have to shuffle to get to Auto. If I have voice activated on Google maps, it pauses the entire Auto system and I have to cycle back to it. I've shut off all voice prompts it's become so annoying.
