What I'm saying is that if the window comes tinted from the factory it can be 20%.. In communist Illinois for example, all the vehicles here that came from the factory with tinted rears are 20% yet that site states the rear should be 35%.. If the vehicle came clear from the factory an aftermarket tint cannot be less than 35% (light transmission).

Makes sense...i wouldnt go any darker than the 20% i put on my front windows. Any darker and i would have even more trouble seeing out of them at night than i already do

So my local window tinting guy says the back two windows from the factory are privacy glass meaning they have no uv protection. Does anyone know this to be true? They also sell a film for the windshield that is clear but is made with some ceramic material that keeps the heat and uv rays out. Anyone heard of this?

I have ceramic on mine. 5% on the sides and back and 50% on the windshield. I notice a big difference from the regular tint with the heat. I can drive around during the day whens its 115 degrees out with my A/C barely on.

Yes to both. I have added ceramic tint on top of the privacy glass and have also 70% ceramic on my windshield. It does work very well. Do research. Some brands work better than others. I used 3m crystalline on my windshield.

I went with what's legal here in NC. The State Highway Patrol will write an illegal tint an award $120 fine I believe. They will expect to see the tint replaced with legal tint, they don't play. They have tint meters. No need for expensive lessons or re do's.

Must allow more than 35% of light in. Non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Must allow more than 35% of light in.

Thanks for the responses. What about the back window? I was thinking about leaving it alone because of the angle of the window and the defogging grid. Or maybe this is common practice.

I left mine alone for the same reason you stated. That and I didn't want to deal with removing bad film on a window with defroster.
