Ilmor 6.2L calls for premium...otherwise, I'd buy regular. and I use a bottle of stabilizer at each filling

The EPA, what do they have to do with world crude prices and OPEC production cuts?

Gas jump 17 cent per liter here in Kelowna BC on Wednesday. Glad I filled up on monday and saved $17 on my 100 liter fill up.

My personal pet theory is that you can tell how the war in Ukraine is going. When going well, gas prices are down. When going poorly, gas prices go up. Now I'm being a bit tongue in cheek, but I've noticed a bit of correlation between what the news (or lack thereof) and gas prices.

I mean, the UKraine has received over 200 billion in aid and reconquered what, 100 square kilometers of land? Pretty pricey ROI if you ask me.

At least we won't be depleting our strategic reserve anymore.

Hard to do when it's gone :notsure:

    yup.

look how far back you have to go to get similar depletion. '83?

making up that number with "limited" creation is going to be quite a task - economically speaking.

we will get to see free market forces at play.

and this will give GOV a fine mess to "intervene" on...and they will.

and look at the timing of that inventory drop.

then compare that to inflation...kinda looks like it was done to tamp down the energy factor included in the calculation.

    kinda...

Or we can just not include gas and food in inflation - then it doesn’t look as disgustingly atrocious…

    :monocle:

I spent some time abroad and if gas prices went up one day, every item in the shops went up that same day. Every once in a while I’d think the shop owner was trying to make a few extra bucks (k, it was really a penny or three after currency conversion); they’d tel me to look at a gas station and sure enough, gas had gone up. Made it pretty easy to see the correlation that I suppose many don’t understand or simply refuse to acknowledge.

Perhaps I misheard something, but I recall hearing some hubbub about the oil reserves not being able to be emptied and refilled like a gas station tank. Not just the issues with supply that we are seeing from our “friends and the new EPA”, but physically the places they store it aren’t meant to be used this way. Does anyone have insight on this?

factor in our present daily usage & then, the demand it will cause to start filling the SPR....that's double consumption. the free market reacts poorly when this happens.

    off topic gas question.
there is alot of youtube and other sources for this. It can get confusing.
there is no more non-ethanol gas here.
If you have a collector car. It takes premium, it is stored and gas sits in tank a long time.
I am using Stabil Storage over Stabil Protection.
Is there a better product for this situation?

Why would it need higher octane just because it's a collector?
Do you mean because it doesn't have ethanol? Higher octane fuels around here have contained ethanol since they started putting it in fuel.

    It needs high octane.
And since owning its now a collector car.

I would use the 360 stuff, since it does everything the storage stuff does, plus ethanol treatment.
I don't store vehicles, but whenever I put small engine stuff away for winter, I add stabilizer before the last use to make sure the stabilized fuel has been run through everything and is in the fuel lines before put away.
I would do the same with a vehicle. Add the treatment, then drive it for a day.

I use the 360 stuff in my ‘34 ford

it has a high compression 350, therefore uses 93 octane

I use the marine stuff in the boat year round, it has an ilmor 6.2l. Needs high octane

The Gas in there is the last of the ethanol free.
Will be putting new gas in soon which will have 10% ethanol. Will add the Stabil 360 this time.

And staying on topic. I expect Oil Prices to make a run now.
I hope so anyway, so my Oil producing stocks which go up with the Oil Price, I can then liquidate.
140 Liter Gas Tank in my Tundra. If it hits $1.75 -2.00 a liter soon ....8^0

Look for places that sell specialized fuels. I can buy 100-octane ethanol-free race fuel here no problem, just have to go to the right place. If I had a car closing in on 100 years old, that's where I'd go if ethanol-free 92 was amiss! Still prevalent here in Minnesota though.

Some of the classics ran high compression (12-13:1) due to leaded fuel being higher octane. Regular gas back in the early 60’s and before was ~93 with the premium being 104-106. The math has changed since then so it’s not quite an apples to apples comparison but you get the point.

But just because it’s old doesn’t mean it has to run on high octane. It really depends on what the compression and timing are for the engine. Nothing to do with the age of the vehicle unless it’s an original engine.

Some more follow up on the fuel stabilizers ethanol treatments.
Not sure where to post this so posting here.
Take youtubers for whatever their worth. This looks looks like a real good experiment.
This fellow left gas in 1/2 dozen new engines for 19 month with different products.
At the end only two engines ran - the engine with no ethanol gas, and the Stabil 360.
    Sea Foam failed.
However..... even though the Stabil 360 engine ran its bowl was all gummed up with jelly too.
Only the no ethanol gas had a clean bowl. Damn.......
Anyone know where to buy no ethanol 93 Octane in Ontario Canada. lol

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWL7p0Pnb8Y&t=1640s

Also the pic is my ethanol test today of my last 23 liter jug of Shell No Ethanol.
I add 10 % water and it remained 10% no ethanol.
This jug of gas has become very valuable.

Gas will come down when the “New Gallon” is 3L instead of 3.8L. Another amazing byproduct is everyones gas tanks get bigger! So the Gen2.5 38 gallon tank will be 48 gallons in the future.

    That'll be 12mm, 10mm and 8mm.

Now let's relate the number of pounds in how many gallons of water to calculate the max weight of a water tank you need to haul 1 mile on a half-ton truck. Metric? Shuffle the decimal point around to convert liters to kilograms to kilometers, done. Imperial? Sincerely, just don't even try it, haha.

Only due to the socket wrench being an American invention and patented in 1863. It's not a statement on the unit of measure being better (definitely not!)
