Thanks man. I will just mount with a light and visible. I really hate wasting LEO's time on my stupidity...and of course don't like donating to the cause in that manner.

One way that works really well is to use thinner (1/4-3/8” thick ) reinforced rubber belting, if you can track some down. Bolt the plate to the belting, and leave an inch or two of belting above the plate to where it’s bolted to a rigid bracket to allow the whole works to hinge on the rubber. If that makes sense.

Finally made a decision on trailer tires, dropping off my wheels tonight.

    Hercules H-901 LR G tires.

I want the better stability with the 14 ply and from what I’ve been reading...better mpg.

Good price. Curious what you think of them. Please report back.

Aside from the min 6.5" width wheel requirement, The LT version has similar specs to the G614 but at only $165... In mid 2019, I paid $248 for a G614 and no they are at $320. Should have stacked them deep.

ETA: The specs for your tires list 6.5" width as min

I’ll update you after a few thousand miles, so probably in September sometime. We have a long haul that month out west.

Kinda weird, the sidewall specs and what’s listed differ some. Most websites say load index 128, but the sidewall say 129 or 4079 lbs each. The tire and wheel package is pretty stout. Glad I don’t toss those around all day long.

Still dealing with this shit show.

    To date, damage has been:

    5 tires

4 LED lights, and I need to go pick 2 more tomorrow.

    Some wiring was replaced.

License plate holder bent, lost plate. Had new plate sent. (That’s sporty in these times).

Damage to powder coating & bent steel. That’s a framing square to illustrate how far the tire bent the steel.

Here are the 12 ply next to the 14 ply.

    1F9EBB7D-6E8C-4E6A-8AA9-AE24302E9E42.jpg

Mounted a high lift jack today...well sort of. Welder ran out of gas and the trigger was acting up. Guess 17 years with the old Miller has been a good.

I have a few hundred towing miles on these tires. I have to say, not going back to anything else. Stability is greatly improved and I only have two of them on the ground.

    Wow, crazy story.

How old were your original tires?

And another question, if they are ST tires don't they have a speed limit of 65mph? My info might be old, but that was my understanding when I was researching ST tires about 10 years ago when wanting to replace the tires on our travel trailer. Lots of failures in that industry since people just look at the tread depth and think everything is good. ST tires don't have the same design requirements as LT and seem to get sketchy after about 5 years.

But maybe that's old news...or not applicable for the higher-load tires you are running.

Excellent question. Every tire has a speed rating. A lot of the trailer manufacturers put the cheapest craptastic tires on to reduce costs, and speed ratings were reduced to 62-68 mph.

    This is a good read.

    https://www.tiresplus.com/tires/tire-buying-guide/tire-speed-rating/

The tires on the trailer with all the failures were 3 years old with under 4K miles. They had a speed rating of M, or 81 mph. I had these exact tires on my last trailer with 25k+ miles without one issue towing at 75 mph.

The new 14ply tires have a L speed rating, or 75 mph.

    I hope this helps.

Nuts...so you had young(ish) tires and they still failed. That's just bad quality control.

Here is a long term update on these tires two years later:

-I did end up going with a set of Centramatics on my trailers and my truck. The tires are balanced all the time and reduce the tire temps.

-These tires have been used on the trailer in this thread and then swapped them over to my gooseneck trailer. These have been used to the max capacity a lot. These tires have ~20K miles on them and still look great. These tires will dry rot long before I wear them out...that is for sure.
