Thanks bro. Me too. Just wondering at what point will they ask what I want instead of matching paint. After they paint it 3 times and the labor price starts to be as much as half the price of the truck. Cause as of now the price is 8000 plus with 2000 in parts. Add another 6k for labor on the second round and they are up to 14. Paint it 3 times and they are at 20. And hello from Pacifica.

Anybody ever deal with a paint shop going thru someone else’s insurance that couldn’t match the paint? If so, I’m curious as to what would be their next move if the paint doesn’t match after the second time.

It doesn't become an issue with the insurance company. I think the shop eats the extra cost. It's not the insurers fault the shop is not competent enough to do a job a claimant won't accept.
I've never accepted any job on the first trip. I've always found flaws that were obvious and some not so obvious. I had a '92 Camry that was silver. The Toyota dealer had a heck of a time matching it. They also tried to pass off such blatant things like overspray on some of the black trim. What really PO'd me was that they then tried to hide the overspray using a Sharpie marker. It has a very distinct purple sheen that I was able to point out. Boy were they embarrassed! The color match was so horrendous that they ended up repainting most of the car. Color matching is a bitch.

Wow. Sharpie. I know that purple sheen well. It’s pretty sad that body shops think people are stupid and think that we can’t see paint that doesn’t match. Maybe some people don’t care about the paint matching, but I know I do.

Are you dealing with their insurance or your's? We made the mistake once of dealing the the at-fault parties insurance - Was a real pita! Ever since we just deal with our insurance let them deal with the other party.

I’m dealing with the at fault insurance which is State Farm and so far I haven’t had any issues. They gave me a new Ford F-150 for a rental. We don’t drive much on a day to day cause I have a company provided work van and the wife works less than 10 miles from home. But so far it’s coming on two weeks now with it. So if they keep messing up the paint that rental bill is just going higher and higher. But so far so good with theirs. I need to check in with mine just cause I called them about it. Ask them some questions about what happens if they can’t get it right just to see what they say.

Sounds like their insurance is working out. My wife got hit by someone with the bare minimum insurance and the repair was more than his coverage. In our case it would have been less stressful to have our insurance deal with the at-fault party.

At least things are moving forward. Hopefully they will get the paint right the second time around. :fingerscrossed:

Oh man. That sucks. Sorry that happened to the truck. Color matching our paint is not easy. They showed me a color that looks promising on a plastic card. I asked them to put it on a piece of metal so we can see what it would look like on metal not a piece of plastic. They agreed and will have it ready on Monday to look at. They are getting me a quote to fix my two dents I have(1 big 1 small) and repaint the entire truck since they are already doing the bed and that way it’s guaranteed to match. A little excessive because I take it wheeling but since the wife convinced me to keep it I’m just going to do it if the price is right. Good luck. Maybe the shop that fixes yours is on point and gets it right the first time. I used my phones flashlight about 1-2” away from the paint to really see the color differences and point out where they went wrong.

A tailgate may less of an issue to paint match. It might not be as detectable as other parts of the truck. You could try to find another tailgate that is the same color.

Yeah. I've been looking for a tailgate in the same color, not luck. It's only been 12 hours. Lol. I may just fix the dent and cover it with vinyl. Really hate to mess with paint.

It spends about 80 percent on the road and 20 Offroad. It’s not a daily driver, but the only reason I even know about tundras or even thought about owning one is because I saw the color when the pros came out and since orange is my favorite color I had to have one. Took me a while to hunt a DC version down. Since I mostly wheel in the desert pinstripes happen every now and then, but I buff them out after the trip so my paint stays nice. Trust me I’ve thought of the line x route but that inferno paint is just too nice not to have it. They quoted me 3000 to paint the rest of the truck but are trying to get it down to 2500. Which is a damn good deal to me. That includes fixing my huge dent on the side. Tree limb hit it when on a trail before the sliders. C822C5EE-2528-4D55-8FC7-1E2A48F41D31.jpg

I don’t blame you for not wanting to mess with the paint. But if you do. Ask the shop to paint the sample on a small metal piece so you can see the color on metal not plastic. It will be different between the two materials. Also look closely for the yellow pearl and the metallic flake in the paint. They painted it inferno but with no flake and no pearl at first. It’s hard to tell in the picture above that the pearl is missing. It just looks lighter in color.

Your truck should have been totaled. Toyota doesn't permit straightening a bent frame, only replacement. In engineering point of view, your truck will not behave the same way as intend in normal operation and in the next accident. I feel for you.

Believe me. I know. Thank you. I tried and they didn’t. At this point I stopped caring about it. She looks good and drives fine. I only use the truck for wheeling or long road trips. I don’t use my truck for truck purposes. I have a company work van for that. I also have my is350 and now a gx460 that I’m kitting out for wheeling as well. So it’s not the end of the world for me anymore. I got over it and at least all the paint matches which was my biggest issue. That’s why I had it completely repainted. As for it being in an accident again well hopefully if it happens again I hope it’s another small car.

Good to hear. Did you go after the insurance at least for diminished value? If not, you should.

Unfortunately I can’t at the moment but I will once we are allowed to be out and about. They are aware of it. They told me to take it to the dealership for that.

I agree with getting diminished value. I've done this before but you will need to get a diminished value appraiser to do this. They come out an inspect the truck and get all the info from you that they need. It's well worth the money spent doing this.

Didn’t know you had to pay to get the truck looked at. The insurance told me to take it to the dealership and they would do the diminished value estimate.

Idk if this has been discussed yet but have your insurance adjuster do an xactimate and get it all straightened out. You're indemnified so everything will be replaced and back to where you were before. Plus possible liability for injuries

Maybe your dealer will do it for you no charge. In my case, a Honda dealer refereed me a few companies that did them. The iat fault driver's nsurance company I dealt with tried to low ball me on everything so that is why I got a pro involved.
