Why so much hate for chrome?

True dat. I do recall a thread a long while back asking why buy a 1794 if you're just going to get rid of the chrome. For me, I would've taken either a Platinum or 1794, but being from west Texas, I was a little more partial to the ranch style color. Besides, it was the only top trim that I found that didn't have the moonroof. That absolutely sold me.

It maybe the Era from the earlier times "wayback" in the day when chrome was a solid 200# bumper and would last forever even after a few minor fender benders & you could almost hand it down in your will, they were that tuff.
Not today's plastichrome, but any how it all falls down to ones personal preference.
I couldn't get the exterior chrome off my Cappy quick enough, those rear bumper caps with the simulated brushed chrome those should have been color matched just like the mustache,I dunno mayb just me being abrasive but a little bit of chrome goes a long way.
The door handles, 4X4 badge, door spears, rear bumper, front lower grill fog light casing, window trims to me it seems a bit excessive...

One of the reasons I went with a CSM color. The brushed chrome on the front grille blends in. Not sure why Toyota didn't give the door handles and window trim the same brushed look? Any other color of truck the chrome does stick out more.

Agreed man I personally thick Silver is the best color with chrome accents, it compliments it.

Chrome is not my thing. But fake carbon fiber everywhere is tacky as well.

While I was at my dealership for some service, I wandered out to the lot. They had about 12 Tundras. The trim packages were all over the place. Some had chrome grills with color matched mustaches, some had blacked out grills with chrome mustaches, and various other odd combinations. None of them looked liked a well-thought out package to me. Whoever selects the options for their allotment trucks needs to be replaced by someone with decent taste.

It's all subjective based on personal preference. Some like chrome, others don't. I went from this:

    2018 Tundra View-10.jpg

    to this:

    2018 Tundra - After Color Match-01.jpg

The last changes I made were wheel replacement (Toyota wheels) and removal of black trim strips between the front and rear windows.

    Looks nice..
Not sure if you can find one in your color, but a painted door handle would look nice on your truck.
I replaced my black ones with color matched for the front doors, the rear DC door handle is already done.

I've thought about that but I think it would be a bit much making everything color matching. A little contrast with the black handles tends to break things up a bit. Besides, they match my tube steps.

All this talk about dechroming got me wanting to finish blackening out my interior. Did AJTs black out kit some months ago.
Got the black TRD shift knob yesterday and a can of paint. Ended up painting the trims above the glovebox/tow controls/lighting controls since mine was scuffed up a bit from when I bought it. I had a little bit of paint runoff just below my Ram mount. Maybe I'll redo it one day if it becomes an eyesore.

I am starting to really like the mustache on mine. Only chrome on mine is the rear bumper patches, front grill Toyota badge, and the front mustache. With the TRD OR package the door handles came color matched.

To each their own. I like some vehicles with a reasonable amount of chrome and some with color matched or even blacked out. I think it brings somewhat of a luxury feel to it. That being said, if the paint on my 1794 wldidnt have pearl in it and was a flat color, I'd definitely paint match or black out all the trim pieces.

Honestly at this point I feel color matched is what’s more common. You are more unique with a bit of chrome. That being said, I’m happy my limited has the nightshade package! But with smoked mesquite I think chrome would have been a little to much for me

It’s the same with black wheels, I think they just look cheap. But it’s a generational thing with kids now the love the murdered look. Looks dumb to me.

I think the sun is bouncing off the shiny and impairing your decision making ;).

I wish I can say that I dislike the chrome because of its environmental impact but it's just a personal preference. I had chrome on a rims 25 years back, and 2 years later chrome aesthetic was akin to fake wood paneling for my eye. My wife refuses to let me remove all her chrome badging from her car and it bothers me daily...not enough to make it my hill to die on though. At the end of the day, it's whatever floats your boat, so long as it doesn't sink mine.

Plastic coated with Chrome just doesn't have the depth of color that Steel coated with Chrome does, which is why it just looks cheap to my eyes.

    No.

There should be more chrome. Everything is chrome in the future.

People that don’t like chrome have poor taste. They drink light beer. They hate puppies. They put toilet paper on the roll with the toilet paper facing the wall. They leave shopping carts loose in the parking lot instead of returning them.

In short they’re barbarians, incapable of controlling their base impulses, barely removed from animals.

So true. Especially when the tires start aging a little and the wheels are way blacker than the tires.
