Agreed. Dealers are swimming in new trucks right now. Used are getting dinged hard. Hard to separate when they say your trade is depressed and the car they are trying to sell you is hard to get. At best, they show a better trade value or don't show full discount on the vehicle to be purchased. Could the recall be a factor? of course. Is it the primary gating issue? I doubt it. Inventory is the issue. Basic sales stuff....same as it ever was. Dealers are extraordinary at honing on your fear to strike a deal. They do it all day, every day and the next day too.

FWIW, I was picking up an oil filter and stopped by sales. Inquired about trading for a platinum. No problem. "great trucks. Happy to get you in a new one and we'll treat you right on the trade". I can guarantee "they'll treat me right" on my 1794 but they'll short me the $7K I could get of MSRP on the new Platinum.

I'm not interested in trading unless it's a @breathingborla special edition. That is a nuanced and dialed in vehicle. I'm just too lazy.

Same here. I’ll trade for the right deal. Not in a hurry either. Truck is set up really sweet. So it’s gotta something I really want..

I'm eying a '24 Babymax High Country, but I have enjoyed the power of the Hybrid.

I honestly like my Tundra a lot and picked it because I liked its combination of features with AVS / Air Rear Suspension. I'm mad though. I changed oil this weekend and did see metal flakes / grit in the bottom of my drain pan.

I also cut open the oil filter and saw similar small silver flecks and this black gritty material.

I'd buy a Ram Cummins...but the dang truck won't fit into the parking garage at work :(.

I did my oil three times on my 24. My 1st and 2nd oil drain had metal and that black pepper like grit. My third drain was clean seeing some of that junk can piss you off but try an early oil change. See what you get in about 3k miles as opposed to 5k

A direct quote from a mod on why it was nuked was "It was officially a thread full of assholes being assholes. The amount of reports coming out of that thread was unbelievable."

While I agree some folks can be assholes, sometimes myself included!, I find it very fragile and snowflake-ish to "report" a stranger on an online forum.

Depends on conduct. If somebody is just venomous and hostile about everything it disrupts the community that's been built here. If the mods see it, they take appropriate action. Mods can't be everywhere so the report function exists. It helps them do their job.

Just being a bit of an ass usually doesn't get a ban. I'd be screwed if it did. Excessive reporting for non-issues can get the reporting party banned, though.

In the end it doesn't matter what we think of it. The forum is privately owned and @Bob makes the rules.

I've never heard my site referred to as "blogspam." Interesting word choice. It was three people by the way, all different and many others have shared similar stories since being published.

"real quantifiable evidence." I quoted a dealer directly and I saw the email. What else kind of evidence do you need?

Run into the ground, and trade at 15K are not mutually exclusive events with a Land Rover product.

    A few thoughts...

I find it interesting the number of comments I'm seeing from people happy they got a trade-in "deal." They state the deal was a loss of $15-20k from what they paid for the truck. I realize the market has changed and times are different, but that's a lot of coin. I haven't lost that much on any of the trucks I've bought including the 2022 Tundra I bought for $59k and sold to the dealer for $53k.

I think the criticism over the blow-up over no trade-ins is valid. I seriously didn't foresee that post causing so much angst. Also, I didn't expect people not to really understand this doesn't impact EVERY dealer NOR ever customer. I had several owners reach out to me in frustration and I was shocked to hear they were flat-out turned down on a trade-in. That's interesting news. I didn't expect that to apply to everyone's situation. And I'm as frustrated as many of you are that some outlets are treating this as a joke. These are real people who are dealing with this BS.

Frankly, I was also disappointed in other Tundra owners who could have helped and instead decided to call me out or worse, call those owners liars. Why not say, "damn that sucks man. Have you tried this dealer?" Create a list of dealers offering good trade-ins? You know. Be a good human.

In hindsight, I should have worded it more clearly that this was the experience of three different customers and NOT the de facto experience of everyone. Apparently, I need to spell such things out these days.

As I said in the follow-up video, I expect Toyota to weather this storm. I think owners need to make their own decisions on whether they trust their truck or not. If you don't, expect to get a low-ball trade-in offer OR get turned down completely. I think both could happen especially with the unknown over the "safety" recall. If it does happen, shop around. Maybe you'll find another dealer who can offer you more for your trade and/or try to trade into a truck with some incentives. The truck market is getting pretty flooded, you might be able to move some negative equity into a new truck and soften the blow.

I do think "safety" is the keyword. I've been to that engine plant in Alabama and I'm not sold on the hybrid engine blocks being built on separate lines. I certainly didn't see that when I was there, granted I wasn't looking THAT closely at the line at that time. I think it is the wording of "motive" power that has me thinking the hybrids will be included once a new, more encompassing recall is posted. They didn't put a safety recall on the hybrid because it can move forward under its own power. They didn't say there was nothing wrong with it. I certainly don't think this is the last recall on this powertrain.

I do believe Toyota is being honest. That defect report was shocking in its depth. I've looked at a few others and they are scant, to say the least. Toyota manned up to the problem, explained why it took so long in detail, and is working on developing a complete fix.

Finally, yes, I do think some trucks will require a full engine swap and not just a rebuild. My hunch is it will come down to an oil analysis like they did to diagnose the problem. They will also extend the warranty like Hyundai is doing.

Maybe reporting of this issue is slowing down from other sources like social media because it is now a known issue with a recall in place.

Many social media users are posting their experiences for maximum views. Posting something that is common or well known doesn’t accomplish that.

Alternatively most in service trucks that are going to fail spectacularly have largely already done it, and Toyota has corrected the originating issue so future failures in current and later production will be very rare.

Or Toyota is now hunting down and killing people who post Tundra failures. They learned this from Boeing.

You heard here first...Tim said the Hybrids are screwed. LOL. That's how this stuff starts, some select individual will grab a snippet, twist it, and spread it like a virus. I for one, like Tims videos , and have learnt stuff about my truck from them. Tim is not the problem
