I think sometimes these type threads are started by a bored salesman sitting at his desk at a GM or Ford dealership.

Your data is probably correct, but what you're posting is akin to going to your cousins house, viewing his newborn son, then saying "That apple fell too far from the tree." You have to be more delicate with new owners.

This forum is very interesting - it's like people use it as their personal blog. Tons of threads and posts on here like the OP's.

Makes it a PITA for people like me that just want to search for things about the 3rd gen Tundra.

Not all of us 2.5 gen owners are crapping on the 3rd gens. I'd happily take one! :D But seeing that my (admittedly dated) 2.5 gen is so new, I can't justify it. I'll ride this one out for a while but have little doubt that I'll bump up to the 3rd gen at some point. Most likely a hybrid in either 1794 or Capstone trim.

Welcome to forums where everyone is a naysayer lol. Definitely don't discredit any information you read but always, always, always come to your own conclusions. This one is simple to figure out by going to a dealer and sitting in one.

What I'm getting out of this thread is that I need to dig a large hole, and bury my Tundra in it......

I'm on them for my M3 and Land Cruiser - I agree with you. Every time I sign on to check something out it makes me question humanity - and then myself since I am the dummy that joined them.
Yeah, I've been on forums since the days of AOL dial-up, lol. This forum is particularly bad about people treating it like a blog though. Admittedly its the only "truck" forum I am on so I have no reference for trucks specifically.

I called a bunch of dealers when the 3rd gen first came out, nobody had any they hadn't sold yet, so I couldn't check one out in person and drive one. I am going to start calling again to see if someone has one I can drive and start the process again. As my Land Cruiser becomes more of an overlanding specific vehicle I am wanting a truck more.

Happy hunting. You’ll like it coming from the Land Cruiser. First vehicle since mine that I had that same weird, irrational attachment too.

Ask about salesmen that have purchased Tundra's. My dealership was the same way, but since I refuse to spend $60k on any vehicle I've never been able to drive one of the two salesmen that own one offered to let me drive his.

Toyota should offer all trim levels without the sunroof.

I for one have no desire for one on a truck, I’d rather have the headroom.

You guys are so tender about any criticism of the 3rd gen, lol. Just a couple of examples: the headlight recall was because of 9 vehicles, the power steering rack recall applied to 150ish vehicles. Every recall Toyota issues seems to be cast with the widest net possible, even though it’s only usually a handful of trucks that exhibited any problem at all. That steering rack recall? Everyone with a 2nd gen Tundra got a notice because they might have had work done in the date range that the faulty machine was making steering racks. They sent notices to thousands upon thousands of Tundra and Sequoia owners even though VERY trucks had an issue.

The rarity of actual issues is literally the same thing you claim about the 3rd gen. And before you claim I’m coming in here to crap on 3rd gens because I’m self-deluded or insecure about my own truck, I’m a very happy 2nd gen owner who will most likely wind up in a 3rd gen well down the road. It has taken some decent steps forward with a few disappointing steps backward for how I use my truck. Still, it’s a Toyota, and if history tells us anything, it will develop the same kind of reputation for extreme longevity—which is why resale value is so high—that the previous trucks are known for.

With this thread, dude comes in and basically says that the new truck is substantially smaller inside. This is literally true. And in the current age of barely getting a chance to sit in the driver’s seat for 30 seconds before making a $60k+ decision, this is actually helpful to potential buyers. I mean, I get it; the guys who post “I hate the 3rd gen because it looks stupid” are fatiguing, but that’s just noise. Ignore it. This thread isn’t that.

I was never in the market for a 3rd gen Tundra. My 2010 SR5 will be mine till it fails me. I'm only a 5'9" 165 lb 'squirt' by today's standards but when I read the new Tundra's interior dimensions, I knew it wasn't for me, even if I was interested in buying one. Americans are growing LARGER Toyota. Is this interior designer the same genius who deleted the driver's side grab handle for several years?o_O

I’m 6’1” 250# and can assure you the 2022 vs gen 2.5s I owned the “smaller interior” is a red herring for people to belly ache about the truck has tons of room and it likely more comfortable than the 2022 platinum superduty I have as well. If your over 7’ 300# sure but…

You've sat in the backseat of the hybrid? With a pano sunroof? And you know everyone's needs for how they're going to use their truck? o_O

Most people probably couldn't care less how they fit in the backseat, but some have very large teenagers or need to use it for work with a cab full of grown men.

Again, knowing that the hybrid's rear seat has even further reduced headroom is helpful, especially when people are getting a very rushed walkaround as their only experience with the truck before dropping $60k+. The new Sienna and upcoming Sequoia have reduced interior and cargo room as well. It's just the nature of the beast.

That's actually not true at all. The literature proves that. Almost every measurement has less than an inch of difference in cab room.

    2022
Headroom (front/rear) 41.0/38.5 inches; 39.3/36.9 inches (with moonroof)
Legroom (front/rear) 41.2/33.3 inches (Double Cab); 41.2/41.6 inches (CrewMax)
Shoulder Room (front/rear) 65.0/63.4 inches (Double Cab); 65.0/62.4 inches (CrewMax)
    Hip Room (front/rear) 62.6/60.5 inches

    2021
39.7/38.7 inches (Double Cab); 39.7/38.9 (CrewMax)
42.5/34.7 inches (Double Cab): 42.5/42.3 (CrewMax)
65.7/65.6 inches (Double Cab); 65.7/65.5 (CrewMax)
62.6/61.6 inches (Double Cab); 62.6.60.4 (CrewMax)

These measurements average out to roughly 1 inch difference across all measurements. I don't know what your definition of "substantially" and "literally true" is, but this does not meet mine and I would guess most people's.

Opinions don't equal facts. To say "Toyota, you blew it badly" off an average of 1 inch difference is kind of wild, but he's entitled to feel that way. If it feels substantially smaller to someone, great, keep shopping. But for anyone to come on here and broadly say it's substantially smaller then say that is a fact is dead wrong. I don't mind OPs opinion on it because its an expensive truck and he needs to do what's best for him. The responses are funny and clearly some butt hurt is happening but let's not claim feelings and opinions as facts.

funny that someone is saying that americans are getting larger. that sad point is that the usa is considered one of THE overweight large population countries in the world.

there are small countries that out rank the usa in obesity by percent but then again they have a small population

    Code:
Country % of Obese Adults 2022 Population
    Nauru 61.00% 12,668
    Cook Islands 55.90% 17,011
    Palau 55.30% 18,055
    Marshall Islands 52.90% 41,569
    Tuvalu 51.60% 11,312
    Niue 50.00% 1,934
    Tonga 48.20% 106,858
    Samoa 47.30% 222,382
    Kiribati 46.00% 131,232
    Micronesia 45.80% 114,164
    Kuwait 37.90% 4,268,873
    United States 36.20% 338,289,857

the really sad part is that india at 1.417 billion adults has a 3.9% obese rate and china has 1.425 billion with a obese rate of 6.2%.

    which comes out to:

    usa = 121,284,384 obese adults
    china = 88,405,014 obese adults
    india = 55,269,753 obese adults

so the battery box in the hybrid is higher than the storage box of the non hybrid, thereby reducing the rear head room even more?

I didnt know that, but if thats right, thats another reason just to stay with the non-hybrid, as I want the under-seat storage this time around and also I just don't see any reason to pay 3400 for more things to go wrong unless you tow heavy every day.

even though its smaller, I like the new truck and Im going to get one once I can have a more normal purchase procedure.

after all, if you want a new truck, its either a new tundra or one of the others, they don't make the last gen anymore, so its new gen tundra or one of the others, Ive tested them all at this point and only the Ram is left in consideration but I think Im going tundra again for my 5th tundra

Lol. I completely agree that opinions don't equal facts. Guess what's not an opinion? Over an inch and a half of height difference with the moonroof. Is there even less headroom with the pano? I agree it's probably not an issue for most people, as they won't have adults sitting the rear of their trucks.

But again, stuff like this is useful to the guy who got the call from his dealership saying that a truck is available if he wants to jump on it and he has 15 min to walk around it and decide. Any info on things you might not have thought to check or look at is helpful.

I haven't seen anything that shows that other than people on the forum. The specs I have seen around the interwebs show the same headroom in the rear seat with a hybrid as it does the non hybrid.

    Too many, but not enough....
Obesity is bad, but the saddest part is that China and India have lower overall obesity because most of their population is malnourished and starving. Not sure which one is worse, but with obesity, at least you can change course with behavior and dieting. Livestock in the US eats better than most of the world.

I think the rear head room with pano is the biggest difference at 2" less, thats a lot.

but while I agree its just smaller here and there, it does feel tighter inside overall, its more of a feeling that anything

Im 6'3" 280 and can fit in all the seats, my head does hit the portion of the rear roof where its not raised, but its still fine if you use the raised portion. it isnt that comfortable as it used to be sitting more straight up and making sure your head is in the slot, lol

but its more than fine for smaller people.

I took a quick break from reading the thread and went and sat in the back of my 22 Tundra CC Limited with a Pano roof. At 6'1" with a 32" inseam (tall torso), I do not fit in the back of my truck.... I have the TRD Nerf bar installed as they make getting in and out of the truck much easier with my inseam.

The front seat for me is great, with plenty of headroom, and my legs fit comfortably resting against the console and door.

I have to wonder if they are measuring at all the same exact ways and locations or kinda "cherry picked " locations to make it seem not that much smaller.

6'1" would fit easy in the back of mine

Actual experience is often different than one would expect having only read numbers on paper.

I'll still probably buy a hybrid Tundra in several years. I just want 1 ton payload capability (2k lbs available) to go with the drivetrain that has more torque than every 1 ton domestic gasser on the market.
