I’m just glad he put the “I do truck stuff” schtick behind him and bought a crewmax like the rest of us grocery getters.

It appears that the best new truck right now re. overall reliability (and warranty) is the Nissan Titan. If I didn't absolutely enjoy my current Tundra and the dozens of other Toyotas over the years, I'd own one.
Get one whilst one can, when they are gone, they're gone.

It is surprising to hear of the love for the Nissan titan. I had a 2005 that was a nice truck but had every major component fail. Rear differential, transfer case, transmission, rear axle assembly, and module and several other smaller things were replaced under factory warranty. Then after the factory warranty ran out the transmission went again. Instead of replacing it, I unloaded it. Spent more time at the dealership / in the shop then on the road. And I had to fight Nissan corp the entire time to get things covered.

The new gen Titan gasser is getting high reliability scores. It's 2024, not 2005. My dealer offered me a chance to buy the last one they'll ever have. I only passed because I'm not in need of a fullsize truck anymore. That Titan sold quick.

Buying a lame duck vehicle can come with it's challenges financially and long term support wise.

Nissan post Carlos G cost cutting and volume chasing is a shell of its former self. My wife has a 2015 Nissan CUV with only 75k on it. Not many problems per se but it feels 20 years old. Compare it to my 2015 Ram with 90k I traded for the tundra and it is just night and day. One was a hunk of granite at 90k the other a bag of rocks at 75k.

I have a BIL that owned a couple of 20-35 year Nissans. His 2003 feels more solid that my wife's 2015.

I know a couple guys with Titans. They're decent trucks.

If you're buying for the long term, a 3-5 year old Tundra with low miles and a good carfax is still the best bet. I would trust that over any new truck in the segment.

I absolutely agree on the lame duck portion and have friends with newish Nissans that relay similar experiences also. A little counterpoint from my own perspective:
My 2015 Infiniti Q50S AWD is just over 100K miles and has been an absolute tank. Has the "old" 3.7L NA engine, no turbos.
Through MN winters and road salt, not a speck of rust.
Other than some swaybar endlinks that started to rattle and since replaced, it's held up solid as a rock.
I love that car and I'm gonna hate to sell it.

Funny thing is that when the new gen Titan came out it had the most advanced tech of any other full size truck. I thought it was quite fugly at the time. There's a new fugly. LOL Cost cutting? Previous gen Frontier Pro4-X only got the M226 rear diff. All other Frontier's got the less beefy C200K. When the new gen 22's came out, all Frontier's got the M226. Actually a Dana 44 btw which means there are lots of options when it comes to diff/axle upgrades. Cost cutting? Hardly. Beefed up an already beefy fully boxed frame. Installed hydraulic cushioning and more sound deadening for the cab. Went with a more expensive 310hp VQ38 NA V6, and a Jatco made in Japan under Mercedes license 9 speed trans. On the other hand, my steering wheel isn't telescopic. Definitely cost cutting there. BFG. Not a deal breaker for me. Why would Nissan stop supporting a Titan? Financial challenges on a proven reliable truck? LOL Yota is the one with a huge financial hit replacing 100,000+ motors! The statements I'm seeing can be attributed to all car manufacturers now. Folks worldwide are watching this new Tundra fiasco going down and are wondering if Yota has been skimping on QA, cost cutting, volume chasing, and is becoming a shell of its former self! May not be reality, but PERCEPTION is everything.....

    Lots of stuff!
Is this the "Why no love for chrome" thread?

I think there is a bit of jealousy going both ways:
Gen 2 owners have a super reliable platform but a bit stale on the tech.
Gen 3 owners have questionable reliability but newer tech and bags of power.

Or it may be that we all get a new engine for buying a Gen 3. :)

Opposite sides of the same coin IMO. My old ass dinosaur of a truck is exactly as ahead in long term dependability as it is behind in tech. There is just no such thing as a free lunch.

If I weren’t buying for the extremely long term (10 yrs if we don’t outgrow it), I wouldn’t even consider a 2nd gen Tundra.

Bulletproof long term reliability or updated tech.
    Pick one.

I have both at the moment, updated tech and power, etc and not a single problem

my 16 had several problems, so its not always that cut and dry, but I know what your getting at.

I'd take this one over my 16 in a second, but even my 16 had way less stuff than the 21s., the headlights were AWFUL for starters, I had to mod that, man those OEM sucked, couldn't see shit
