    My plan is to get one when the kids are grown and out of the house.

    Rhodesian ridgeback's seem to be the breed I am leaning towards. No rush though, I have a long time to go haha.

    Yeah it's really hard to see Katie getting weaker. When our last companion, Bonnie, died we felt we'd never ever get another dog. After Katie, we will see. They just always show so much optimism and faith that they make you feel better just because they are there.

    She's big, about 28" to her back. She's got a huge perimeter that she patrols through the hills, around the entire neighborhood. Apparently she runs the perimeter barking to make any predators aware that she's on the job. Harry told me he had to put a bark collar on her for the sake of the neighbors, I haven't been bothered by her. She protects her property and presents a VERY imposing potential threat. That said, she's an absolute sweet heart. She and I get along very well. My male dog Goober, not so much. He hates her 'cause she can and has easily kicked his ass. Goober got aggressive with her and she put him down, with her paws, didn't persist or hurt him, just let him know that she'll be kicking the asses and taking the names in this neighborhood...lol. When I visit Harry's house, If, she barks at me, I call her and she greets me in a very friendly fashion. She definitely knows who I am and leans on me, as if she's accepted me into her pack. She tends to bark more at other neighbors but not annoyingly so. She's one of the coolest dogs I've know but needs space and likes to work.
