We just brought this little guy home yesterday. His name is Max and he’s a miniature schnauzer.

Aw, I love mini schnauzers! My best friend has a white one and he's the sweetest dog. She has him groomed to have a mohawk and dyes it different colors, he looks like a little snow cone.

Out mushroom hunting last spring on my farm. Took a moment to take a pic of my wife and kids and my Rhodesian Ridgeback decided to jump the crick to get to Daddy. LOL

Hi @OR18TRD, just getting back to civilization (been off grid for ~3 weeks). It's this https://www.amazon.com/4Knines-Seat...b09-4890-9554-a66850a6824a&pd_rd_i=B00DQFZGZ0

LMK if the link doesn't work. I have the regular size as it was for the Tacoma but I now use it for the Tundra. It fits the back seat but is slightly small. I'm sure the extra large would be fine for the crewmax backseat.

How is your Ridgeback with strangers when you’re present? Kids? Can it be trusted alone outside (not bolt down the road)?
I’ve only met one, and it was a friends neighbor (5 acre parcels - so country oriented). It would come over to the house at times, and it was very skittish (which I’m perfectly fine with - and prefer). But very nice. The ridge/coat was crazy!
I know they are smart dogs. Just wondering if they would be a fit for a younger family in the country on acreage.
We are coming from a Chocolate Lab, and want something a *little* more protective of the property, but not scare all our kids’ friends/parents away.
My choice is a Dobie (or a GSD but can’t do the hair/shedding), but wife/friends wouldn’t fly. Need something under the radar that people aren’t really aware of.

They are ambivalent to strangers, they neither seek attention or are afraid, they will accept the pat on head but won’t go seeking it.

I have a 16 year old and 8 year old, he is best buds with the youngest. I highly recommend socializing as a puppy, take to malls, games, and around other people and dogs from the moment you get one ( If you do). Google and read about their background etc. This is my 3rd one, I live on 5 acres in the country and my farm (30 min away 50 acres for bow hunting). They are VERY pack oriented ie protective of the family, one of the main reasons I got this specific breed. I’m away a lot on business and I don’t worry when I’m gone. They are extremely athletic and at 90 pounds quite formidable if necessary.

Can you leave them outside alone - hell to the no! They are hounds/hunting dogs, if they see critters it’s game on. That said, mine won’t leave the yard if we are out there with him, we take him to the farm unleashed all the time and go swimming in our pond - ride 4 wheelers etc.

Also they shed very little, extremely low maintenance.

That’s exactly how my friends/neighbors ridgeback is! Funny!
I have googled them and read - but comments from first hand experience is always preferred, so thank you
    Especiallly on your 3rd one.
Dang on leaving them outside alone - that’s a big one for me.
They seem like the perfect breed minus not staying put if we leave for a few hours :(
And we have lots of critters running around. (3-8 deer a day in the am, and same in the pm). I prefer the deer until we plant grapes LOL.
The deer didn’t care at all about our lab. They’d walk right past him, and he had no clue (he was old, but even younger days not sure he’d go up to them).
    Beautiful dog by the way!

    Ha!
    Socks:
Is it the hardwoods? Some dogs just don’t understand hardwood floors.
Ours didn’t. It was hilarious - but $$$$ at the same time. Our old house (rental now) has beautiful rustic real hickory floors, and our lab destroyed them.
When we turned it into a rental I didn’t refinish them, and don’t plan on it for many years for the same reason.
I have no idea how you get dogs to “learn” to walk on hardwoods - but from my experience, some just do, and some don’t LOL.

He’s ok on the wood. We put paw butter on him and he kept licking it off. He hated it! The floor is some kind of engineered stuff that is very resistant to scratches

That’s what my dog used to think! Lol!
He’d sit for a few minutes around our kitchen corner and just think about what it was going to take to go around it.
Then he’d slowly walk up to it, and then take off like a bat out of hell as soon as he turned the corner.
It was sad, hilarious, and costly LOL
