Well, our dog tore his other CCL. Guess we're in for another round of surgery and rehab.

Our oldest pup, Arie, turned 12 this past Friday. We got her a cake, a reference to her nickname my wife always calls her, butthole… she was a bit wild when she was younger. At the bottom of the cake it says Happy Birthday Butt! We took them out swimming off the boat, she likes swimming. And the puppy got the all clear from her fractured toe to go swimming, just a couple more weeks of restrictions before back to normal activities.

Ouch! Been there done that with Jenny. Both done within two years of each other. This makes her the most expensive dog I have ever owned - correction: who has ever owned me!

Supposedly 60% of dogs who tear one CCL will tear the other within 3 years.

I've heard something along those lines. Our oldest tore her right in summer of 21', it's always on our mind about her other side.

    Nice!!
Yeah...Boxers aren't all that into swimming unless they can walk into the water. With their deep chest and skinny waist they tend to float like a bobber and beat the water into submission.
Given time they eventually figure it out though. Had my chest and stomach shredded by their claws during swimming lessons. But with having a pool and them going out on the boat we thought it was a good idea to teach them to swim and where the steps were in case they fell in while we weren't home.
About all they'll do is sit on the first step of the pool when it gets hot though.

Emma is a few days short of 6 months old now. She gets lots of exercise usually chasing us on the 4 wheelers for about 3/8 of a mile, swimming in the river and pool and fetching.PXL_20250724_215045216.jpg PXL_20250724_215033968.jpg

And that's exactly what she was thinking. She prefers to have both my wife and me in the pool with her.

lol, funny you bring up boxers and swimming... several years ago we went canoeing on a river that opened into Saginaw Bay off Lake Huron, had a big sandbar at the time, lots of people hanging out. Our oldest lab that we lost 4 years ago now was playing and this guy with a boxer came up to us and said his dog could swim circles around our dog, he was pretty drunk. His dog was nice so we figured have some fun and let the dogs play. He threw the toy along the shoreline and his dog just ran the sand the entire way, to which he kinda boasted about it his dog being faster than ours. So I tossed the toy out a little and let them actually swim, the boxer was bouncing up and down on her back legs splashing like crazy, didn't even make it half way by the time our dog got to the toy. It was a good dog though, they played for a while, just her owner was annoying lol. But I never thought about their body shape and how it affects their swimming ability.

    They're definitely not natural swimmers.
Once they figure it out they do okay.

So sorry to read that! Our 9-year old Labradoodle, Chloe, tore her cruciate ligament and we elected not to put her through the surgery and recovery at her age. Our vet recommended we have her receive Librela pain shots monthly and she has been doing very well with those. Good luck on your pup's surgery!

I understand. Our girl walked with a limp for a short period of time but gets around well now. I wish you and your pup nothing but the best and hope that everything goes well.
