Beautiful dogs. But very high energy and stubborn. I miss mine. I love that they will talk to you, some good howls. Give her 3 years, she'll calm some, but still be stubborn. Pic of my late Koda, 1 month shy of 15 years. 2016122595111916-EFFECTS.jpg

She's already talking, lol. Can't wait for her voice to change though, very sharp and piercing.:eek2: I would have never guessed Koda was 15 in that pic, looks like a young dog, my golden was 15 when she died and was very white on her face.

Oh yes the piercing puppy squeals. Don't miss that.

I think he was 13 in that one. He aged very gracefully. This was the day before I had to put him down. He had some kind of blockage that wouldn't allow him to keep down fluids or solids. At almost 15 I wasn't going to consider surgery or other corrective measures. I didn't want to put him through that. It was a hard decision, but I didn't want him suffering as he starved. 20211107_193808.jpg

We had a DISASTER WITH DOGS yesterday. A neighbor died and his widow wanted us to take the dog (too much for her). We already have a dog, but thought he might like a playmate. Mind you these are not tiny dogs. Both weigh in at about 75-85lbs. We've had larger (a Great Pyrenees at 140lbs), but these two are energetic and no cream-puffs.

Anyway, two minutes after bringing the new dog into the house, the fight was on. Luckily, I had anticipated a potential problem (dogs are often territorial) and, while both got in a couple of nips, was able to (just barely) keep the two at arms length.

Afterwards, the wife held onto one and I held onto the other (well away from each other), hoping the two would settle down. And, indeed, it looked like that was going to work. They both (copying the other) laid down and seemed to relax. We eventually relaxed as well, holding onto only their leashes instead of their collars. We talked to them, petted them, reached out to pet the other, they wagged their tails when petted, and so on. We'd swap places and continue to talk and pet. It was looking good.

However, a few minutes after that, one coughed and shifted position, and round two was on. Both pulled from our hands and went at the other. This time, it took almost two minutes to fully separate them. We'd get one under control and the other would go after him. My wife even got knocked to the floor. We finally separated them, this time with minor injuries. Nothing serious, but we didn't want that again.

We took them to opposite ends of the room and tied their leashes to pieces of furniture. We weren't going to let them get free from us again. We hoped to give them time to accept the other. Instead, they spent the next 45 minutes or so growling, barking, and lunging on their leashes. We'd pet one and the other would go ballistic. We'd pet both and they continued to growl. We'd ignore both and the noise was deafening.

We decided the new dog couldn't stay. We didn't know what else to do and we do owe some loyalty to our own dog. As the wife was taking the dog to the front door to leave, she let him get too close to the other, and round three was on. The dog lunged at ours and our dog broke free from his leash (nylon strap broke). This time we, more experienced, quickly separated them without further injury.

After she left, I cared for our dog's surprisingly (considering the viciousness of the fights) minor injuries, and my own (a bleeding scratch on my leg from a claw, a few scratches on my arms & hands from bare fangs, etc). I was hurt more than either dog was. Anyway, our dog hasn't shown any real aggression towards other dogs before, but other dogs are definitely not welcome in HIS home. We now know that.

Not to second guess but might have worked better on some neutral territory but...I think the battle would have raged at some point or another. Hope you find the other a good home!

Well, we had a snowstorm yesterday, so outside wasn't a great option. We took him back to the widow since he was really her dog (we only had him for a few hour trial period). She has another woman who might take him, but that woman has a dog too - and the widow's dog was a major contributor to the aggression. However, hopefully that woman will have better luck.

Both males? Cut or uncut? Some dogs just won't get along, especially if both are alpha dogs.

At least you tried. Hopefully the neighbor lady can find that dog a good home.

Introducing adult dogs to each other can be a delicate process that takes planning and care. Is there somewhere outdoors in neutral territory that you can start getting them used to be around each other. Playing ball individually so that they are focused on you, while being aware the other dog is in the same vicinity. Some place where you can take baby steps towards getting them to accept each other? Bringing a new dog directly into your home can be...well a recipe for disaster.

I agree. However, as I've already said, the weather outside was pretty bad yesterday. We tried, using the best options we had. Anyway, it's done and I don't want to hijack the thread any more than I already have. Lets get back to looking at the pretty dogs.

This is Macy (black one) german shorthaired pointer, and Beau (cocker spaniel/beagle mix). Macy is 10 and Beau is 2. They're rescues and thats probably all we'll get from here on out. They're rotten as can be and we spoil them to death
