Tuco has been so concerned. Hanging out near her, sniffing her, protesting when we were struggling to get her to take her pain medication. I can really see the wheels turning from his expressions- what the hell have you done to my girl? He keeps getting frustrated that I'm keeping him distanced with a leash. After a while he gets mad and flops on the floor to pout until he sleeps. Amazing the compassion and empathy dogs have.

Yeah he's about 9 years old so his black face turned gray. He's about to retire and I think my next dog is going to be a labrador according to my supervisor.

Does Martha need to see a K9 therapist?

She puts a hole in her stuffies, pulls out the stuffing, methodically turns them inside out and they become her toys she shakes and plays with.

    This isn't normal, is it?

    Phew.

Our last dog, Rita (13), had toys that were 10+ years old. She loved them all and took care of them. She basically only used them to greet us at the door and show them off, walk around the room with them as we praised her and the she dropped them until next time.

Completely different dogs with respect to their toys.

I had a dog like that too.
I mean as a puppy she was a terror, chewed the legs off coffee tables, pulled up carpet across living floors. Once she matured after the first year. She loved her toys. Over 14 years she probably accumulated 70+ toys. Way too many.
she also loved our shoes. Never chewed them, just loved to take them, lay with them. Find them all over the house, she would take them outside through the dog door. At times it was frustrating but damnit if it just wasn’t cute AF.

My wife was home with Martha the other day, I was at work. She said at one point, she saw her laying on her dog bed with my slipper. She hadn't chewed it or anything, was just laying beside it.

Luckily we haven't had a dog be too destructive with furniture or anything. Granted, they have all had the freedom of the full house and yard, even when we are not home, via dog doors never kenneled. So we have found our fair share of bread bags, chip bags and wrappers outside, that they have taken off counter and then outside to try and eat and hide the evidence.

Not to mention, a dead rabbit brought in proudly and dropped on the floor as my wife screamed in disgust.

But the worst was when the kids yelled down to us "Rita brought something inside....don't worry, it's dead.....oh wait, it's not dead!". It was a giant grey squirrel she had wounded and it was dragging itself across the hardwood floors by its front feet.

My little guy and his toy. He loves nothing more than to chase a squirrel, a tennis ball or this thing. Just had a little girl and he’s so attentive to her. He’s an amazing little guy.

This sounds like our labs. They love to grab a shirt out of the laundry or a shoe and just lay with them.
