Tuco has a house guest for the next 6 months. They chased each other around for 3 hours today.


This is Kalel, he will need to set some boundaries because when Tuco isn't chasing him he's humping him. This guy is neutered so Tuco is a little confused.

 

Thats what we got them for to "look" mean in all reality besides barking there unless protectors lol some times when we come home late at night I act like I'm breaking in and charge them the male (KUJO) runs down the hall leaving a 20 foot pee trail in his wake..
Luckily no one makes it past the barks

And sounds like tuco needs a female companion so he knows the difference haha

 

Okay smarter-than-me people who are here on this forum... My wife and I are finally taking the plunge and in a few weeks, we will have another “child” join our family.

I’ve had dogs my whole childhood but this will be the first time as an adult. It will be an English Golden Retriever.

I believe fully in training the owner first, so that being said, are there any go-to training resources out there that you could recommend?

There’s obviously plenty out there on YouTube, but any authors or websites you suggest?

Get her/him at 5-6weeks old if possible... Bond...Bond...Bond!!! Strong rewards for good behavior. gentle yet firm, discipline Immediately when there is bad behavior. Best to try to redirect the bad behavior.
Oh and don’t forget kinda like a 2 year old child when they are quiet they are often making a mess!

Can’t remember the book I read but I for sure would find a good book for the breed? YouTube not as much.

 

look up Larry Krohn on Youtube. has lots of training and tips on raising pups.

 

No authors to recommend. But what seems to be the best thing for me is just consistency. Plus what @MTRock said.

Tuco is actually 2lbs heavier but Loofy is about twice his height and length. Tuco still wrestles him fearlessly.

The County in Tennessee where my Wife and I live has no animal shelter, rescue, control......nothing. As a result, for the past 8 years we have been taking in sad story cases and have had as many as 12 living here. We are "down" to 9 right now, along with 6 cat rescues.
Here is Loretta and Lynn enjoying the first wood stove fire of the season. They were thrown out into the street from a car at a stoplight, in front of my Wife who scooped them up 6 years ago.

 

This is Vicky, a Catahoula Leopard dog. She was left tied to a tree in the back yard of a house after the people moved away without her.

 

This is Maxine. She actually belongs to a neighbor but they don't believe in Veterinarians or flea/tick control or shots or spaying/neutering so we began caring for their dog, even getting her spayed after she had 7 pups then went back into heat. She still visits her old "home" but everyone involved knows that she lives here now.

 

These are 4 of Maxine's pups that she moved here after they were old enough. We adopted them but 2 had Parvo (because of no shots). One survived, one didn't. Of the 3 remaining, one was shot by a neighbor for chasing chickens and that left Princess and Fluffy, who we still have.

Chomper was abandoned in the street and he spent 5 days, watching every car that went by, waiting for the low-lifes that dumped him to pick him back up, before I finally rescued him. We are inseparable now and he sleeps with me every night, always maintaining physical contact.
Bailey was taken in from a friend simply because she refused to stop chasing their sheep.
