You are so right about this. Never had kittens this young (7 Weeks) but they are absolutely fearless. They've already climbed to the top of the cat tower we had from our previous cats, the wife freaked out and put some pillows at the base in case they fell off. ;) Finn is the black fluffy Male, Ruby is the shy gray female.

My cat George passed this morning. She was the second cat on my parents block to die from poisoning this week. My mom took it really hard when my dad told her.
George started life as a stray that wandered the block. I saw her out in the yard during the hot days of summer, so I started putting water out. She was a hunter, and got rid of all the mice that were around/under my father's shed, and loved hunting snakes. I eventually got her to get comfortable with us nearby, then going on the porch with us, then into the house (she loved cheese).
Over time, she got to the point where she hated being around other people, but was happy being near us, including sleeping on our laps. When I was recovering from multiple surgeries, I slept in my parents basement on my cot. She would come downstairs and sleep on my chest at night. At the start of this month, she got to experience a road trip with my parents and their dog Fiona down to Reno and she loved sticking her head out the window with the dog. Seeing things she never new existed.
My mom wanted her treated well instead of dropped off at the vets office. So, I brought her up the mountain with me and buried her a little over 3/8 mile from a creek with a pretty sizable waterfall that you can hear from there. I figured that would be a good spot as she liked being away from people in general when outside. She loved being out in the sun, so I made sure she got a lot of southern exposure. She is on a spot with a pretty rocky hill in an area that is steep enough that I don't expect people to go there anytime soon other than the people planting trees above and west of where she is. It was some hard digging and pry work to get it deep enough, I also went a little old school and stacked a collapsing rock pile above and around her. That way, if something does somehow smell her, the rocks will collapse down as it digs.
One thing that made my mom cry again was how I buried her. She loved sleeping on my chest, so I wrapped her in one of my t-shirts. I don't know what comes after death, but I hope she is happy with where and how I buried her.
Fiona knows something is up and she was looking for George.

Anyways, don't get stuck on mourning a passing, remember the lives made better by our small family members.

This is George on the road trip with my folks when they stopped at some remote property I own.

Yeah, the first one that died wasn't a hunter, so they are thinking bait. Police reports for both have been filed, but not likey to get anywhere.

This is Tiger been with us 14 years. Since my son went to college 6 years ago she has taken up residence on my recliner arm.

Then Primrose came along. She was a malnurished rescue cat, stunted her growth a bit, but very sweet.

Then I was in my wood shop and found this guy living there. Tracked down the owners but they didn't want him back. We named him Anubis.

And just to even things out there is Bruiser (seen with Tiger). been with us from a pup 11 years ago. He thinks he's a cat.

We're only 2 days in, but we went from shy and afraid, to happy and freaking crazy. :) Never had two pets that were siblings before, they really love each other.

This is our 3rd cat…she originally was adopted from the Humane Society about 10 years ago by a neighbor and was an outdoor kitty. The neighbor left her at the house when they moved and she became a semi-feral neighborhood cat…she lived in the woods and I’d walk by, clap my hands and she’d come out to be fed…never totally friendly but approachable. A year and a half ago one of the neighbors who knew I fed her said she had been injured and was hiding in their bushes. I went home, got a carry case, picked her up and took her to the emergency vet. To make a long story short, $750 later she was my cat and an indoor one at that. Still skittish but does come onto my lap for chin tickles.EB64C6B6-16D1-42E1-A0F5-DB2779105907.jpg

That's hard, especially knowing that it wasn't "natural" or timely the way she left this world.
Sorry to hear. I will pet mine tonight a little extra in honor of George.

This our Onyx. We rescued her 14 years ago. Since we rescued her she has had zero interest in going outside.

This August 19th we took her to the vet because she was very lethargic, not eating or drinking, not herself. She was diagnosed with final stage kidney failure. The vet prescribed an oral liquid medication and a daily 10ml saline IV.

Our little girl, I'm happy to report, has improved dramatically. She is more active but not up to her previous strength. She is eating little bits at a time and drinking water again. Her kidneys are doing something because she has been using the litter box to urinate.

She is approaching her end of life so we are monitoring her quality of life closely. Thus far she is still engaged with her people and her daily needs. We do know that she will never return to her previous glory. Every day with her is a blessing and we are happy to be a part of her life all of these years.

That's a hard thing to hear, but I'm glad she is being loved. I only recently learned that cats that are strictly indoor need to have special diets in order to keep their kidneys healthy. Apparently they don't drink enough on their own and without prey to supplement water in the diet the kidneys take a beating. My brother learned this and shared it when his cat became ill. Until last year I had no idea a cat wouldn't drink enough water to stay hydrated.

Believe it or not Onyx has always drank a lot of water. Urinated a lot too. She did become dehydrated by the time we took her to the vet though.

My wife and I are going to observe the other three cat's water intake and make sure it is adequate for them because they are all indoor only cats. I had no idea the usually don't drink enough when they're indoor cats. Thank you very much for the insight! This could make a difference to the other three cats.

Something you might consider. Cats are often drawn to the sound of and prefer drinking from flowing water over stagnant water. There are all sorts of pet water bowl fountains out there that could help indoor cats. Just be sure to get a good quality bowl that isn't made/painted with that Chinese crap lead based paint/coatings.

This is Myshka - I don't think I've posted her yet. She is extra tiny (a year old and only 6 lbs) and a weird little thing. She squeaks and chirps instead of meowing and actually will try to talk to you.

I had no idea either. He said that the cat just started acting differently. Not being a normal cat and then Low painful yowls. They got him into the vet and it looked bad, but he recovered so well the vets were shocked. They were sure he wouldn't survive the night. That was something like 6 months ago? Cat acts totally fine now, and they have him on a better diet.

Thanks - she likes to reach out and tap you three times with her paw when you are walking up the stairs. That's the other thing, she doesn't use her claws unless its on her scratching post. I've watched her fall off of the couch and just flop to the floor. She won't try to grab. Definitely unique.
