    I absolutely concur.
“Raptor Lights” only date back 10ish-11 years while DOT, clearance, parking, running lights, etc., have been a “thing” well before that.

If anything, Ford “borrowed” the “big rig lights” concept and claim it their own...

My father and I drove big rigs once upon a time and have always enjoyed lighting up our lil rigs likewise... However, I accept the fact that it is not for everyone.

I hadn't really considered doing the 'Raptor' light mod before but I bought the Pro grille insert second hand from a member here that already had the fruits of his labor installed.
All I did was install the grille and wire the ambers in..... and I think they look great!?
I tapped them into my side marker light with posi-taps so I can have them off if I want and just run the headlight DRLs, or turn the headlight switch one click to bring the running lights on.

If I recall correctly, the Ford Raptor is wider than 80 inches. They are required by law to have the lights for safety reasons. I'm not sure if they are the first to put lights on the grill from the factory, but due to the popularity of the truck, everyone seems to want to parrot the idea, even if not legally needed.

Yes, you are recalling correctly! The Raptor is wider than the DOT 80” wide vehicle reg guideline, thus warranting the in-line lights.

The Tundra is spec’d at being 79.9” wide. So, yes, you are correct as it being something “not legally needed”. However, 80 inches in width is easily obtained with the various non stock, aftermarket set-ups (tires sticking out of wheel wells to name one...)

If so, then should these enthusiasts be made to legally add such lights when a mod places the width of the Tundra over the said 80”, even if they do not favor the look, notion?...

Again, the idea of grille lights may not be a favorite for all but we are all on this enthusiast website looking for ideas “to parrot” that appeal to us.

I do not have pictures (dratz) but I even had “Raptor Lights” on each of my 87 and 91 Toyota pre-Tacoma trucks. Man was it cool!?

and another pic just because of the Tundra...

    Cheers

Don't get me wrong, I like the look. I even had the grill lights on my last Tundra. You do have a good point about needing to add them if mods add to the overall width.

I'm sorry I really don't know for sure......if I google "Tundra Raptor Style LED grille lights" I see some that look like these but I can't be certain exactly which brand they are.
The guy who installed them did a really nice job. The lights themselves fill the spaces in the Pro Grille perfectly, and I'm not sure if he made the individual mounting backs out of kydex or something or if they were stock, but they are sealed nicely to the spaces with a bead of JB weld on the backside and everything.
No wiggle and a very factory looking install from the front.
They grew on me the second I turned them on and I agree I do like the shape and size better. And also the more spread out and even spacing.

And I guess that makes me "Legal" now since I'm obviously over the 80" in width on my truck

If we are being honest, the new Tundra visually and conceptually takes a significant amount of its cues off a F150. Everything Toyota is doing seems to be modled after them imo. Which makes sense since Ford owns the largest market share of the segment

Yep, doing the same thing next year. The 2019 ECU tune wasn't available otherwise I'd of bought a stage 2 Harrop this past black friday.

While I don’t mind the look, I feel this is more of a FORD thing and I won’t dress my Tundra to look like a Raptor.

I instead went with Panamera shrouds and Amber back lit lightbar.
