Check Engine light just came on on my 2005 access cab 4x4. :(

I've been thinking of getting a code reader for a while now, and I guess now is the time.

A couple of questions for the Forum...

First, what brand of code reader are you using and do you like it?

Second, where on the 2005 is the port to plug it in?

Third, what are the most common "Check Engine" light triggers that you've seen?

    Cheers

I use this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015GMRZH2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 along with DashCommand https://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/ on my phone. I like the reader because it has an on/off button. The first one I bought didn't and the transmitter burned out after a couple of months. I've had this one for a few years with no issues. I originally bought it to use with my Chevy pickup (it was used often back then) and used an OBD extension cable https://www.amazon.com/Veepeak-OBD2...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= so I could access it easily. I did the same in the Tundra, but haven't needed it.

I use OBD Auto Doctor on my Macbook Air with a generic OBDII-to-USB interface cable I got off Amazon. Works great.

I love it because it actually shows you various gauges in real time. The code reader is just a bonus.

The OBDII port is easy to find, just look under the dash on driver side and to the left.

Hey all! new here and this is probably a dumb question, but here it goes...I have the cable that plugs into the OBD2 port under the dash and plugs into the USB on my laptop. I am curious, what is the best program I can download onto my laptop that will give me codes and help me diagnose issues using the cord I already have? I've never had to diagnose my tundra until now and pretty much every dash light is blinking at me .

Every dash light blinking at you is a very specific symptom actually, you may want to create a new thread about that.

But to answer your question, most chain auto parts stores will scan for free if you can get to one.

If you already have the cable, Torque Pro is available for PC, not sure if you can try before buying or get a limited feature set w/o paying: https://torqueproapk.org/torque-pro-for-pc/

OBD Auto Doctor is freeware with a lot of features, but you gotta upgrade to get the premium stuff: https://www.obdautodoctor.com/download/
