    I'd have serious reservations about handing an internet capable laptop to a 10 year old. There are too many devious looneys out on the web and a 10 year old doesn't have the life skills to sort them out. With that said, check out some of the Mac repair shops for good used machines. if you buy new, get a good warranty that will cover it against drops and spills.
