2"CB shackles, bushings and 1 shim, lockerdown console vault, rear folding seat back mod, snugtop shell with opening side windows, 46g fuel tank, SDHQ sliders and hidden winch, Decked Drawers, Alcan leaf springs and got rid of the interior chrome
Interesting occurrence in 2015, regarding the trailer brake controller: during assembly, all the trucks with the OEM “towing package”, were built with the same wiring harness which included the controller wiring and connectors. Unfortunately, some models didn’t actually have the controller installed in the dash.

Why limit yourself to a third gen (gen 2.5)? If you're buying used, its used. Pre 2014 crewmaxs have reclining rear seats. But no option for larger gas tank. Its give and take with these babies.

This is a point to consider for sure. A lot of folks are holding their breath to see if the 2019 trans cooler removal is going to lead to earlier failures. I think we all know it will likely take years to find out.

Wecome! I have a 2017 with 17k miles. No issues. Definitely get the larger fuel tank, which I believe is standard on the SR5 upgrade... easy to tell if you look under the truck though. Also, mine was equipped with the cross traffic safety package. I didn't think it would be that great at the time, but it warns when cars/trucks are coming down the road as I reverse out of the drive or parking spaces. Pretty solid feature imo. Plus it comes with rear color matched bumper end caps.

No issues with 6th gear vibration.

    I’d go either 2017 or 2018.

2017 if you don’t want TSS.
2018 if you do and still retain that transmission cooler.

I had an ‘11 that was awesome, zero issues with regular maintenance. Have a ‘19 now, and the main difference I notice from the ‘11 is the throttle lag - you barely touched skinny pedal on the ‘11 and you were going!!

Both my Tundra and my wife's 2013 Corolla are like that. My guess is they did that to make their fuel economy numbers look better.

I vote 14-17. No TSS or extra electronics to fail down the road. That being said LED head lights and apple car play in the 20 would be nice. This can be added to any 3rd gen though so it depends on what’s important to you. The Tundra gets a lot of hate for being a simple truck compared to the big 3 but that’s why I bought it!

I bought a 2019 platinum. I wanted as new as possible since I am not sure what the model change will bring and I don’t want direct injection or turbos. Proven long term durability as new as my money can afford.

2015 with 117K miles. Only thing replaced is oil, tires and brake pads... Runs like a sowing machine and no different then the day I took it off the lot. Plan is to keep her until 2030 and I dont see why it won't make it. Nice to have no payments and an extremely reliable truck.

Funny enough I drive an F250 with no running boards at work and still don't use the grab handle, it's in a weird spot that's not natural to me, I pull on the steering wheel for that one. For my Tundra I find I use the door to balance myself more than pull up, it's only levelled so it feels pretty low compared to the work trucks I'm used too

That’s incorrect. 38 gallon tank didn’t come out til ‘16. I’ve had a 15 and now a 20. Whatever you do, don’t get the small tank. It’s useless. And even worse would be getting a 16+ with the small tank.

    I have a 2017

I tend to wait after 1 year of a new generation to make sure all the bugs are worked out, and to buy in the last year before a new significant upgrade is introduced.

I have a 2016 Platinum and a 2010 SR5. The 2nd gems faster, but it's 2wd. They both are solid, one with 200k and motor purrs like a kitten. 2016 loaded and lifted and all trd items added except trd suspension. Built to last.

Reference post 4. Still true. Obviously I didn’t expect this when I bought it but I’m glad I was lucky. The biggest reason to consider the newer models would be the more advanced technology, primarily the safety gizmos. Personally I don’t want any of that stuff and believe lots of it is responsible for the recalls and problems. 2022 is a new animal all together and in many cases, completely new models have problems unforeseen by the manufacturer.
