Where could this leak be coming from?

So, I finally got down to the driveshaft to change the oil seal and it was plenty dirty. I cleaned on it for prob 30 minutes..night and day difference now.

But..where could the oil be coming from that's all the way up below the water pump? I'm assuming an oil leak from the main seal around a the rotating shaft could throw oil upwards but I dont know if that's the culprit for the oil that is that high up. I dont know if the leak was that big of a leak or just a slow one.

Also what do you call the housing where the shaft lives? The area I cleaned. I have arrows pointing to some form of gasket material. I had no plans of doing this and I'm a newbie for sure, but should I go and and see about taking this housing off of the driveshaft and replace that gasket while I'm right here looking at it? Unless I am missing something it just looks like some bolts but there may be more involved when it comes to pulling it, IDK.

The crankshaft seal sits in the oil pump housing. The oil coming from above could be coming from your cam seals. You should replace them since you’re there.

 

thanks..learning everday. It dry as a bone around the cams, but def replacing those seals. It just spreads up from the seal around the shaft all the way up to bottom of the water pump..but thats it. But also towards the back

 

I saw this that you replied to another post a while back. I pulled it last night. How do I seal it?

sorry I just realized I didnt post what I found in another thread..thought I did. I saw where you were helping a guy with leak around the area i am, you mentioned that it could be the tensioner pulley if they are not sealed properly..

 

Hopefully not coming from oil pump. Don't forget the washer. Also be sure your PCV valve is not clogged. Might also try some
