Toyota acts like they don't care if they compete with the big 3 so they are dragging their feet on redesign. Would like to see 6.5 foot bed with crewmax and quit forcing a sunroof on upper trim levels - HATE THAT with a passion.

Both gen 1 and gen 2 had a 7 year model run
    2000-2006 & 2007-2013 respectively.

Using that timetable I'd guess 2021 (2014-2020 for 3rd gen).

I know where you're coming from. Salesman was trying to sell me one with leather and a sunroof. Looked at me like I was crazy when I told him I didn't want either.

    Welcome to the forum.
Toyota will never have as many configurations as the domestics. More configurations=more cost=more problems. I'm not saying Toyota is perfect, but the recipe the their success is sticking to what works. Go to an F150 forum and search for fit and finish problems.

2018 is a refresh and 2020 is the likely next gen redesign from what I have read.

I called up my buddy Mike Sweers last night and he was getting piss drunk with some of the Toyoda executives....going old school.

So I thought to myself, this is the perfect time to strike.

So I dropped the bomb on him. After I realized it was a phone call, and not a personal Face to face conversation, I dearly regretted farting. Once my eyes cleared up, I dropped a question instead of a fart.

I said "Mike, dammit!! When is a redesign coming?" He was mumbling like a drunk buffoon, and said something like "why do you care Benedict Arnold? You bought a kick ass GMC 3500!"

So I had to pull out all the wild cards and said "Mike, what about the children?" You could hear the drunken buffoon sobbing like five year old girl, and then he came out with it.....

The new design will be.....hell I don't know. We sell everyone we make. So until that changes, no redesign in the making. Absolutely no diesel LT Dan, so don't even ask about it butterdick.

OP, I would agree with others on this much covered thread topic, 2019-2020 will be an announcement.

One of the members who claims to work for Toyota and claims to have inside information on the new Tundra owns a 2016 if you want to read into that.

According my buddies at the Toyota Tundra Plant in San Antonio 2019 will be the release of the fourth gen Tundra. I was told the next truck will be a complete redesign including the frame. But everything is hear say until it's official from Toyota. So all of us loyal Toyota buters will just have to wait until Toyota tells us.

I believe it will be sooner than later, RAM with ecodeisel and now ford says they will be dropping in a deisel in their F150's with a 10 speed tranny and 4 other engine options next year it has to force toyotas hand IMO. I would have said Nissan too but that Titan has so many issues I've read it's embarrassing.

This is what I was thinking... With these trucks I always fall back on the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Sure, our trucks aren't the best in class when it comes to MPGs, but that's the least of my worries, as it is a truck afterall. I think just knowing I have virtually the same motor/tranny combination as a truck that has driven over 1,000,000 miles is priceless.. So I'm hanging onto my '16 for the long haul :turtleride:

Although, I can't say I'm not excited to see what they do with the Tundra next, whether it be a diesel option to follow the footsteps of the other brands, or just a complete overhaul of what they are running currently... Time will tell

No doubt, if and when Toyota finally does come out with a truly new gen, the new gen will be like in 07. A totally new Toyota truck that makes the big three rethink things like they had to do in 07. IMHO.

if everyone go small diesel engines, do the US refineries have the capabilities to follow ? gasoline is king in the US for cars.
Not like Europe where it's the opposite.

I would imagine oil refineries would be able to do whatever they want. Especially since we all keep paying for whatever price they want.

If it requires diesel fuel additive and all that bologna, I'm out. I don't want to deal with DEF and DPF and all that.

I heard from a Bartender that Oil Companies are running out of Diesel in the world and Toyota is holding off on their Diesel line because of this. Thats why they are leaning strongly towards those cool Prius cars, working towards an Electric Truck version starting with the Tacoma's.

In can see a possibility for hybrid going into Toyota Taco but going into larger trucks (like the Tundra)..... hasn't fared too well as of yet. Concerns: Costly power train, feasibility, why, etc...
