I've been wondering lately "when" most people spend their time in their own heads.

Do you live for the moment? Just kinda rollin' with the flow. "Whatever happens happens" "It is what it is. " Taking life as it comes.

Do you live in the past? "Man, I shouldn't have said that XX years ago to So and So. That shit was wack." "I should have said "BLAH BLAH BLAH" when I was arguing about XX. "

Constantly thinking about the future? "If this happens then that means that he/she will do this/that." Planning, and mapping.

    Or is it a mixture?

Personally, I'm a bit of a mixture. I live mostly for the moment. Just flowing with it, but I do dwell on the past briefly once in a while. I almost never have a set in stone "plan." I just kinda do what feels right/good.

It should be my present because I used to plan for the future, but the future I planned for is nowhere near what I anticipated it to be nowadays.

I try to plan. I realized I’m terrible at anything long term. I’ve really been focused on living presently the last couple of years. Life changes rapidly and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

100% in the past. I like the world I grew up in much more than the one my kids are growing up in. I’m trying very hard to give them a life comparable to the one I had; with regard to intangibles, not material things. It’s just about impossible.

Definitely future for me. But not necessarily in a good way. I get too wrapped up in trying to manipulate variables and control outcomes. I am guilty of trying to anticipate and manage others’ emotions. I budget out a year in advance, which by itself is ok, but then I struggle to enjoy the present because all I can think about is how spending money now will affect my financial standing down the road.

I try to live my life the way philosopher Boethius wrote about almost 1500 years ago, and is still very relevant, especially today. Give it a listen, it will blow your mind.

I'm presently regretting that I did not properly plan for my future in the past.

    Too many, but not enough....
I think now that I have kids I'm definitely living more in the present. Future is more important now to with more adult responsibility and planning pretty much anything is paramount now.

I’m a here and now type of person. Don’t dwell on the past nor do I worry about the future. I cherish the good times right as they are being made. I also don’t keep track of who owes what as things eventually make their way around.

Mixture. Just turned 40. Looking back when I was in my 20s I rode my Harley Davidsons, bought a new vehicle every 3 years living like a rock star. Going out with friends every weekend, chasing girls. I always had a 401k with my full time job saving for retirement. Well once I hit 35 people started getting killed/severely injured on motorcycles, I freaked out and sold mine asap. Had a friend die of cancer at the age of 50. Other people dieing of sickness. Now that I’m 40 I live a good healthy mixture, because I may not ever make it to retirement age. I’m glad I did what I did in my 20s when I was less fearful and everyone had more free time. (No wives/kids) I’m more humble now, everything is temporary. I learned now that these retirement planner guys make it sound like everyone will retire with all this money, that’s a big lie lol. Nothing is guaranteed. I live a healthy, drama free lifestyle to prolong life.

    Yesterday is history...
    Tomorrow is a mystery...
    Today is a gift...
That's why they call it the present. :bananadance:

I try not to dwell on the past. There's lots of things I probably should've done VERY differently, but I can't change it now and it's the path that led me to where I am now, and life is pretty freaking good now!

I do plan for the future, but those plans have to be fluid and subject to change.

Wanna' make God laugh? Tell him your "plan"

So yeah, I try to mostly live in the present.

Pretty good stuff. As someone who has a hard time letting go of things when my plan doesn’t work out, I’d benefit a lot from taking it to heart.
