What's your payload sticker say?

I am wondering if any Gen 3 owners would mind sharing their payload numbers off the door sticker or even post a picture, like mine which reads: 1,390 lbs.

Apparently there is a configuration that is over 1,900 lbs! With that config you will probably have to sit on a plastic milk crate! Does this unicorn even exist?

I am looking at the different trims and options to see where the biggest hits to the payload are occurring

My trim is Crewmax Limited L with TRD offroad - Canadian Version.

Does the SR have a sunroof? How about the fancy softex seats with heating and cooling?

I guess the 4wheel drive adds weight as well

Now go weigh your truck on a CAT scale with nothing in it but a full tank of fuel. No mods. You will most likely find that the difference between the GVWR on your door and what your truck weighs is HIGHER than the payload number on your door jamb.

Toyota didn’t actually weigh each truck, and some guys are finding they actually have 200-250lb more available payload before they’ll hit GVWR.

I got this from my manual. It seems that the best payload number is found in the 2WD Long Bed at 1,580 lbs. I think that doing the weight confirmation at a scale is a good thing to check these numbers. Perhaps the extra ~200 lbs. found by doing the math on your GVW is a safety margin that Toyota built into each payload number?

If it is about sales and marketing, I would expect them to show higher numbers in a very competitive 1/2 ton market.

I dont think its a safety margin. I bet what you find is that they heaviest, most optioned trucks might have the least delta between their payload sticker and their actually scale numbers.

They are applying a single value to every truck of any configuration regardless of options so they are having to build that into the number.

There is another table in the manual that decodes what the different model codes are, although it seems to be missing some trims. Maybe the 2023 manual has a better table:

I also have this on my 23 Plat HEV. So on paper, I have 1305 - 65 = 1240 for payload... and yes, I'll be going to a CAT scale soon.

I have a question regarding payload. Has anyone scaled a base model SR or SR5?

Any updates on this. My new 2024 Tundra 1794 HV says 1290 in payload capacity. I dint have any other options so not sure why it's so low.

Isn’t your GVWR 7750 lb? A payload rating of 1290 means your truck weighs almost 6500 lb empty.

    That hybrid system is heavy.

Also, if you go to a CAT scale and weigh your truck with a full tank of gas and no one in it, it will tell you the true capacity you have for occupants and cargo. Probably a little higher, but maybe not by much.

My truck is the same configuration as the OP's, and I have the same main sticker. However, I also have one of those supplemental reduction stickers. What's up with that? You'd think they would just print the correct numbers based on the VIN.

GVRW is 7630. I'm towing a TT with 750 lb tongue weight. My 2015 Sierra Denali with 5.3 v8 and 1400 payload capacity had no issues. I thought the Tundra would be better.

I have an upgraded sticker on my 2014.
It isn't a weight reduction, but tire pressure.
It was because of a Gulf States port added TSS trim level 20" BFG KO tires.
It was added after the VIN was created.
You must have a port or dealer added option added to your truck that weighs around 46 pounds after it was assembled.
    That's my guess anyway.

So you’ve got 110 lb less payload according to the door jamb. Take it to the CAT scales bone stock with no one and nothing in it and a full tank of gas. Subtract that weight from your GVWR. I bet you get more than 1290 lb.

And I bet your hybrid absolutely crushes the GM 5.3L towing your TT.

It has to. The max stock curb weight with all the same options with the Iforce max, hybrid, panaroof is 6195 I can find anywhere. I do have a 26lb difference sticker. So my payload should be above 1400lbs payload. The engine difference is big. Only 383 lbs of torque in Denali vs 583 in the Tundra. Gonna take it to scales today. Thank you

Yeah the hybrid motor, battery, cabling, and larger rear diff components all add up.

Curious to hear your findings at the CAT scale

Just got back from CAT scales. Curb weight with full tank of gas and tonneau cover on(Bakflip MX4) was 6250. 3500 on front axel and 2750 on rear. So my GVWR is 7630. So my true payload is capacity is 1380 correct. And you only use weight over 150lbs for the driver right?

Nice! The door jamb specifically states that payload capacity is for any and all occupants and cargo. Sounds like you found an extra 90 lb even with a tonneau cover on (which I’m assuming is not factory). Your true number probably should have been 1400 lb or so.

This is the truck scaled with 350lbs of people. (Full gas tank, stock truck, no gear)

    IMG-20240508-133549_83f76fce66ad4d23b9a3cf62109e822043bac2e3.jpg

    7615 (GVWR) - 6520 (Scaled weight) + 350 (people) = 1345lbs
    1345 (Factory payload number) - 79 (factory mods lowering payload = 1266lbs

All this to basically confirm that the factory sticker is accurate. Makes me wonder if the dealer even added those modifications that supposedly lowered the payload by 79lbs.
