snagged another photo book that's been on my list for far too long.

    Photo Dec 14, 3 18 24 PM.jpg

coverage of the u.s., afganistan and iraq starting with ground zero in nyc. put together by my a-list of journalists who were the original members of VII: james nachtwey, ron haviv, john stanmeyer, gary knight and antonin kratochvil to name a few. the images were made between '01-'03. all of the journalists in the book were still shooting film so there's a special feel/quality to the images. powerful, compelling, horrific and beautiful at the same time.

While the subject matter is difficult and painful to think about, I imagine that book is something you will hold onto forever. I have a similar book and go through the pages often, I still to this day cannot believe 9-11 happened.

Not directly Tundra related, but I still recommend one of these if you have gas heating, or appliances. My Mother-In-Law lived in a small one bedroom house for a while and it only had heat in the living room. She decided to add a little heat by turning on the burners on the kitchen stove to a nice, low flame. When she moved into the house (and the house before that), I had plugged in a CO detector in a place that she couldn't reach. I knew that the first time it chirped, she'd knock it out of the socket and forget about it. Sure enough, in the middle of the night, the nice yellow flame from the kitchen stove had produced enough CO to sound the alarm. She couldn't unplug it and dialed 911 for help. The fire department heard it in the background and ordered her out of the house. They arrived a couple of minutes later, realized that it wasn't a smoke detector, and used big fans to clear the house. They told her to turn the living room heat up a little higher and turn off the stove. The next morning, my phone rang and her first words to me were "That thing's loud enough to wake the dead!" I told her she was close, it was loud enough to wake the soon to be dead. We found out later that the fire department sent people door to door (it was a small town) to warn people about the dangers of heating with gas range tops. My Mother-In-Law's experience was shared so that people would take the warning seriously.

This isn't our first, when they've passed their service life it's better to get the latest and greatest rather that take a chance on an old unit not working when you really need it.

Don't give me any shit because I didn't already have a 3/8" driver nor hex sockets. Just don't.
Luckily I found the two sets of hex sockets on sale at Lowe's for $10 each.

The only thing my wife bought me for Christmas was a stick of deodorant (in my stocking). HA!
We’re going to Hawaii in a few weeks which was our presents to ourselves.
I knew I still needed to come up with something, so after 2 years of searching finally found a fire bowl almost 4ft across. She immediately wanted an afternoon Christmas fire lol. She was happy.
(That’s my stepdad, not me lol)

It was from a local place called Parkrose hardware. I found them on-line but they started at $600 + shipping
Picked this up for a few hundred less than that thankfully. Sorry I can’t help more than that! I seriously looked for years and as soon as I saw it - true love. :D
