It turns out that the fuel pump was NOT the problem, the identical issues reoccurred hours after the repair. I left my truck with the dealer yesterday morning, and they are trying to nail down the problem.

Two tourniquets to add to some of our emergency bags. After the Vegas incident, these are a “must have”

Smart. I keep a few SWAT-T's in important places, but I should make more of an effort to make up a medical bag for each vehicle. It's cheap insurance.

I have one in each vehicle and now one on the way for the house. I’m glad I did an audit, one of my bags needs new water and food due to expiration.

I had my EMT and had thought about jumping to full medic. I should have done it but, at the time, I couldn't see myself working as a firefighter. The captain teaching the class wanted me badly though. He said the young guys couldn't cook anything but mac&cheese and pb&j. :D In SoCal, private medics don't get to do much except shuttle from hospital to nursing home and back. I didn't look into that much here although when I was jobless last year, I talked to a few folks. Again, I should have done it.

I never worked for a service but in SoCal, I worked on the weekends as a scuba instructor and dive master. Used to help train life guards and the LA County Sheriff swift water rescue guys. Owner of the dive shop where I taught had been the director of the Canadian Coast Guard rescue swimmers and one of the guys who co-trained me as an instructor was an ex-UDT guy from the Vietnam days. I've been through water training that would definitely be considered extreme.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look it, I've used the training more than I would have liked as a civilian. Most of the occurrences were water related. Rescuing people in over their head in big surf or out in places where they shouldn't have been diving. I once had to rescue a guy while working with clients on a photo shoot. I also had a dive master trainee that went into cardiac arrest in 75' of water. That was a crazy afternoon.

I've had two events since moving here. One was in Boulder Canyon about 4 years ago, head on collision with a motorcyclist who wasn't wearing a helmet, and the other was here in downtown on the Cherry Creek path. Both were unpleasant and this isn't the place to bring up those stories. I'm sure you could pull up some info on the Boulder accident. :typing:

I have not taught a wilderness med class but I do need to re-up that certification. Teaching those classes would definitely be fun for me. I wish I could find the time to get back to doing something like that. My scuba instructor days, mixed with the photography, were some of the most fun I can remember. Something about working with people who have your back without having to talk about it.

If you don't want to build one yourself, here are a couple of great options.

Outer Limit Supply. Local guy here in Denver. Member of Rising Sun. Works as a medic. Toytec sells his stuff.
ITS. These are also great kits but may contain more than you need or are comfortable using.

I built my own kit based on some input from a Team guy I knew in San Diego. Pieced it together with a few items from ITS.
