For fuel economy discussions, I recommend 3 tank averages. Fuelly is a good source for both data and recording your economy. Dash readouts are good for anecdotal bragging rights, but that's about all. ;)

the dash read out has been dead on balls accurate overtime Ive checked it, my old tundra was the same way.

My ram was always higher reading than actual by 2-3 MPG

My little electric BMW is a great way to show me what happens when you go faster. If I drive at 50 mph, I can see the battery drain slowly, if I bump it up to 70 mph, the electrons start to move quickly, at 80 mph, the electrons are being flushed down the toilet!.

Slow down if you want better mileage. Like @Mattedfred diving closer to 50 mph will produce great economy, but in @Eurodriver example, the truck has the aerodynamics of a barn rolling down the road and running at full boost is just sucking the fuel!

Retrax. Uptop AFS bed rack. Condor XL. Dobinson rear springs. BFG 35/12.5/r18. BD light bar and ditch lights. Prinsu roof rack. Diode dynamics fog upgrade.
I’m at 11.8 with my TRD Pro. Not very good, but if anyone can help me understand. I do run bigger tires, 35/12.5/r18 BFGs on stock TRD pro wheels. My truck now runs 3 miles slower than real life shown on my GPS. IE odd shows 30 miles an hour, GPS now shows 33. Should my actual real world MPG be better than what my car shows? Any easy calculator to show how tire size change effects MPG calcs?

To be fair, I got a big RTT, heavy rear load in general running around 500-600 lbs with all of our overlanding gear. Roam boxes up top. Not to mention frequently doing road trips in Texas driving 90-95 miles per hour.

My thoughts. I have 34.3" tires on my TRD Pro so have done some (probably shady) maths.

Yes your MPG on the truck dash will show lower than actual, as your bigger tires throw off the odometer. You are actually going further than the odometer says as it is calibrated to stock tires (~32.6")

To calculate actual MPG take your 35" tires actual diameter (from discount tire or tire rack specs) and find % difference from stock. Then use that to correct odometer reading (i.e. my tires are about 5% bigger so I multiply odometer reading by 1.05 to get actual miles traveled).

I see about 1 mpg estimated improvement over the dash reading when I apply this logic.

My 295/70-18 Nitto Recon Grapplers are "S" weight range vs "E" on most every 35" tire so are a little lighter and a little smaller. Showing 16-17 mpg on the dash in normal driving so likely about 17-18 mpg actual.

With forced air induction vehicles the more boost you use the less mpg you get. Ford named theirs correctly. Eco or Boost, your choice.

I read an article about why booted smaller displacement motors are capable of so much HP/TQ. Basically at 14.7 psi boost (equates to approx. twice atmospheric pressure) your volumetric capacity doubles.

    A 2.7L turbo motor is now a 5.4L
    A 2.3L is now 4.6L
Funny how Ford made them that way to match their V-8s at the time.

3.5L now equal 7.0L at that boost level. This is why they are worse on gas than their Naturally Aspirated counterparts at high boost. When not in or using very little boost you have small displacement and more mpg.

Look, if you pinched the radiator and have about 4 rams in truck's bed, they can tow the truck to the dealer and get slayed to cover the parts+work. You can probably even get paid by Ford or GM for that show in front of Toyota dealership.

Most trips I’m averaging 16-17 with a 3 inch lift and 35s. If I do 50-55mph I’ve seen 18-20mpg on some drives. Tire size comparison tool showed me that stock vs the 34.5 diameter of the new tires it’s off by roughly 6.2% so after a correction on the dash readout I’m at 16.1 after a thousand miles, way better than the 11ish mpg on my 5.7 with similar mods

Well, technically since they are rams, they are likely to be best at pushing from behind anyway. See Wise Toyota.

It is nice to know folks haven't changed. This was a common compliant in the F150 forums when Ford put Ecoboosts in them in 2011.

My car isn't getting very good gas mileage. I only did a few mods....
