As a motorcyclist, I find to occasionally and unexpectedly find myself wondering why it seems that cattle trucks appear to be allowed to POUR RAW LIQUID MANURE from their trailers onto public roadways. :crapstorm:

I would be hard pressed to believe that an incidence of this behavior has not at some point been determined as the root cause of a motor vehicle accident. :poking:

Did you get behind the convoy of livestock contractors heading to the last PBR event?

It really doesn't need a convoy to make one aware of this.

I would hate to see what would happen if I left the black water dump upen on my RV cruising down the ol' roadways.

Did the trucks you saw just have their rear doors open after leaving a LWM washout? That's the only situation I could think of where manure could wind up on a roadway in significant quantities. If the trucks are loaded you do occasionally see manure dripping down the side of them.

No, doors closed/gates up. It's usually around corners when you can see it splashing out the outside corner of the rack. Sometimes, when you initially smell it, you can see the long wet streak on the pavement. It probably pools in the bottoms of the trailers on level travel, then sloshes out around the bend. It's gallons when it happens, like >10.

Be careful on the roads @Wynnded . There are too many hazards out there. Oil leaks, diesel leaks, retreads in the road, couches in the road, dead deer in the road, all sorts of stuff in the road. I have seen so much jacked up stuff on a roadway, ride safe, keep those eyes constantly scanning!

Now that ya mention it I have seen that, most of the time right where a road coming from a feedlot turns onto a paved road.

It is something you don't think much about in a car though. I never thought about it until I was on my motorcycle behind a truck hauling livestock. Noticed a mist on my windscreen and my helmet shield, then a smell.

Never made that mistake again. Pass, turn, or huge gap between haha, never behind!

Right! Never behind. I notice it all the time, I see it as one of endless road hazards no matter my conveyance of the day.

Those trailers have a tank below the bottom floor. When they get full, it doesn't take much of a turn to spill 20-30 gallons.

I was just thinking to myself, "Someone here knows the answer to this...". There it is! Learn something new every day, doesn't matter if it's shit or not.

Here in Wisconsin, land of the 1500+ head mega dairy farms, there's shit all over the roads. I don't know if it's ever caused an accident but it wouldn't surprise me if it had. Manure gets pumped into a pit, liquefied and put into a tank truck. The trucks go out and spray the stuff on the fields where it covers the tank trailers and tires and in turn gets splattered all over the roads. When it's fresh it stinks way worse than running over a skunk, its all but unavoidable and you better get it washed off quick because it stains everything and dries like cement.
