I've always had respect for teachers. Unforgiving job. You use some of your own money at times. The reward is seeing your students succeed to the next level.

I'm not limited to RF/microwave calibration. This particular unit is a Danish made Elma motortester TR1000 owned by Vestas and used by field techs at the massive Diamond Trail Wind Project in Iowa. Vestas will have over 50 wind turbines at the site. We have a large amount of Vestas field test equipment pre positioned in our warehouse here in Aurora. Diamond Trail Wind Project | Mortenson

Journeyman toolmaker. Started at 18 yo in January 81. Worked in various shops for 35 years and ended up landing a job with one of the “big 3” in January 2018. Can see light the end of the retirement tunnel. Pay is stupid good for what they expect and the insurance is second to none. I have problems with the union work ethic of some, but I do me and don’t worry about others the best I can. Taking the money and smiling every payday. Retired custom duck and goose call maker after 27 years of two full time jobs.

After working for Costco in various warehouse positions for a little less than 10 years (left as a tire center supervisor, and I started at Costco my senior year of high school). I finally decided to actually use a portion of my degree (graduate certificate in business management, by b.s. is in Nat Sec.) as a relationship banker at Chase.
Currently I am working on licensing, just successfully passed my S6 last Friday, and taking my S63 on Tuesday!
Off the rip I did take a hefty pay-cut (appx 15k pre tax) but the room for growth in the financial services well outweigh growth opportunities at my prior job. Also if anyone has tips for S63 I’d be greatly appreciative!!!!

@16 fast food @18 Sears (union warehouse) laid off in 1992 screwed around cash work, painting, boat work, landscaping.

Late 92 landed a job at a little company called Raisbeck Engineering (was the 6 employee hired) counting rivets and shipping. Moved up to inspecting parts to mylars (still shipping etc). Then added purchasing and helped set up our MRP system although we didn’t fabricate the parts (we farmed them out).

In 1994 I got my DMIR with the FAA so I could conform parts and export for the company. In the late 90s we started growing bought a building, guess who got to do the maintenance... add another hat.

Early 2000s we formed real departments and I was given the title director of quality assurance and became the direct contact with the FAA. Early 2000s we hit a home run and we stared growing. I think we were around 15ish employees and a shit load of consultants in the building. Oh and did I forget to mention I was also given IT responsibility when the accountant quit!

Once we hit the jackpot the VP decided to retire he gave two years noticed so they promoted me to Director of operations overseeing shipping/rec, procurement, doc control, Q/A, IT, and facilities. About 8-10 employees in those departments. When the Vp retired, we hired a VP of engineering, CPA, and I was promoted to VP of Operations.

I was with the company for 25 years. At year 23 the owner sold to private equity, he stayed on with the company as an advisor and is still there to this day. I wasn’t happy once he sold I don’t want to go into specifics, I was not forced out but an opportunity came up and it was very similar in that it was a privately owned company with 10 employees and they wanted to grow the company.

There were other factors such as reducing my commute, not by much but it adds up. The only real problem was I’d have to take a pay cut... another up side it would be as GM and the owner is semi retired. I felt I had a good chance to have a direct impact with improvements with no red tape...

It was a hard decision to jump ship 3Rd year at the new job we’ve done a lot of good things, but Covid has really impacted the business. A large portion of our work is aerospace tooling..

so to answer the question I guess I’m a manager?

I’ve been machining for around 10 years. Bounced around a few shops and a few shifts, went from aerospace to electronics and now working for an awesome company still machining a lot of pressure/temperature sensors for Department of defense and the NASA satellites. Great benefits and pay for where I live. Would love to make it to a union shop some day but I think those are just a myth haha.

I'm a tree-tard as were called in the line business. Basically I drive a mini foot off-road sections of power lines and drop trees and make line clearance. Or if there's storm I'll travel the northeast and pretty much clean up or help lineman out. It's a fun job and the pay/pension is great but thinking about going back to school soon for mechanical engineering. Time will tell

I’ve thought about going back to school for 30 years at this point I think the returns would only be personal but if I could do anything different that is the one thing I should of found time for.

I had my 7, 63, 65, 9/10. The key to those exams is to study then take practice exams. When you are consistently getting above 70 you are ready to take it. I remember taking the practice exams so many times i could remember the answers without fully reading the questions. Ahhh im so glad those days are behind me. Good luck!
