Got in two Mitutoyo 1200mm to 1400 mm micrometers for calibration this morning. Freakin big. The supplied Check Rods length will be verified first with our CMM down to less than 1uM. Crazy stuff comes thru here.

 

Currently a pipeline operator for a midstream natural gas company in western OK/ eastern TX panhandle, moved into pipeline ops in Jan 2019, was a natural gas compressor mechanic for almost 15 years before that...also spent 13 years in the LA National Guard, Transportation unit as mechanic and truck driver

 

I work for a turbine repair company . Turbines for gas , oil , electricity and commercial jets .

 

I am a medic full time, and a nurse per-diem. Love being a medic, and I have been blessed to work on the ambulance for the past 22 years. I have not dreaded a day of going to work (other than the waking up early part). There is a bit of dread now due to the pandemic, but I am thankful to have a job!

Lieutenant in a large suburban fire department, my ladder truck runs about 2800 calls per year. It's the best job in the world.

Part time, I do fire investigation for the private side (insurance companies, law offices, etc.) It's a sweet gig!

Wouldn t mind being in your shoes 10 years ago when I was 50. I used to be cabinet maker, but now Im a cnc machinist in a well established corp. I ve been doing this for about 5 years, and still find myself scratching my head more times than I like to admit.

Prior diesel mechanic/pipefitter in the Coast Guard so the lateral move was easy peasy. Similar equipment but it's filled with gas instead of water and i'm not floating on a cutter in the middle of the ocean staying awake 30+ hours at a time and chasing drug runners anymore which is nice..

 

Interesting you mention Coast Guard. I machine parts for the Coast Guard among other entities

 

Nice. You may have made those $19 washers and $60 bolts that they used to buy that you could get at lowes for $.50

 

I run vertical mills. They make the washers on the cnc lathes

 

Licensed electrical engineer doing controls, automation, robotics, etc. Just left a large chemical plant right before COVID hit where I managed large capital projects for almost 10 years. Now with a systems integrator making work easier, safer, and more efficient for operators and controllers in the paper and chemical industries.

 

Update I retired in March. Last day at work March 25th. Working on the Honey Do list now.
Loving every minute.

 

I went to the global conference last year in Vegas. I really like to roadmap and feature set coming up.

 

I tell people something different (and shitty) every time I get asked what I do. People don’t like my real job.

mgmt now but started off testing in the 90's when the internet was called the world wide web, most used aol and netscape navigator was the only mainstream browser. dating myself now....freakin relic.

goal was to get paid to play video games because my friend was. ended up on the internet security side so it worked out.

 

This must have been before the Netscape/IE wars then.

 

yeah totally but netscape didnt have a great business plan or strategy to monetize or the resources obviously to fight the 800 pound MS gorilla. once MS decides they'll go after something they can easily shift hundreds even thousands of engineers to the new effort. their problem has always been that they love themselves too much and focus on their own tech stack. they bundle a whole bunch of software together offering major discounts but it doesn't always integrate well especially with 3rd parties like with Google, Oracle, cloud products. satya, their current ceo, is breaking down a lot of those walls though so kinda scary for other software companies.

 

TCE gave me a ‘Thanks but no thanks’ email today for that position down here. Piss on em.
