Yeah. I had the same situation. I stayed with the company for 8 years.

I relocated to an area with a low cost of living for the job and it had a great signing bonus and salary. I had just graduated and gotten married, but had no kids when I started.

It was great except that the annual raises and performance based pay were pretty small even though I received a few awards for my work on extra projects I took on.

In the end I had a family with 3 kids and a comfortable $125k salary, but had been moved to an area with a much higher cost of living and a 1.5 hour commute each way.

I gave it up and moved all the way across the country to run a small distance learning company that can only pay $48k/year until I get it off the ground, but I have no debt so that makes it easier.

I work from home and I get to spend time with my extended family almost every day now which is great. Dinner with all of them every Sunday.

I'm just wrapping up the first phase of my company growth plan. Now I expect to at least double my previous salary within the next year or so.

I turned 37 earlier this year.

My brother worked in plant maintenance there for several years. He just recently moved to the ExxonMobil plant.

Field IT guy for DOT. Not much to it honestly, but it pays the bills. Time for a switch though. Been doing IT for 10 years now, time to move on up the chain a little into something a little more fun.

Fine. I was going to bring you some good Canadian beer and maple syrup as a peace offering but if you're going to be a dick about it, I'll just keep it all for myself.
