"The average coordinate measuring machine, also called a CMM, has three axes. The X,Y and Z are arranged in an orthogonal pattern, which is common in three-dimensional machines. The probe, which can be run by a computer program or an operator, moves along these axes to give an accurate measurement of the item that is being scanned."
" A CMM measures the exact dimensions or angularity of an object by calculating the difference in length between probes on moving axes positioned around the object. Accuracy depends on the machine and the precision of the operator, but is usually measured in microns (1/1,000,000 of a meter)."

Lets say for instance you have a new 3 dimensional part. A fender for a Tundra. This machine will take precise measurements so the fender can be reproduced exactly as it is or to determine if it is up to engineering spec. Any part for anything basically that requires precision measurement capabilty due to tight tolerances. CMMs comes in various sizes. We have a smaller Mitutoyo CMM that got dropped off yesterday. Mitutoyo has to come out to setup & re- calibrate.

Yep, except that tape would have to indicate down to 1 micron which is 0.00003937 inch!

My sister and brother-in-law are both firefighters. They used to be Hot Shots. He still works the Forestry Service (I believe) and is up in MT last I checked.

I am super jealous of your view. I look out and see office buildings. I can walk over to where there is a nice mountain view, but I got over that a few years back. CO members don't kill me for that . . . :crapstorm:

Well thats getting mighty personal, but sensing that you may be gay by virtue of your question then we’ll leave it as these hands only touch fine females. Us good looking male models have such a battle with others thinking we are gay. Its hard being so good looking.
