6L as in 6 liter? If so, yes. It was the LS2 year.

Mine was a 1962 BelAir fastback. It had a built 327. The motor was bored .060 over, with 12 1/2 to 1 Pistons, a killer cam, 202 fuelie heads and a holly 750 double pumper carb. It had Muncie M-22 rock crusher 4 speed trans and 12 bolt rear end with 456 gears. Dam that car was fast! It was dialed in at right around 500 hp.

When of the first times out with the car I had a bunch of people in the car, Showing off I wanted to do a killer burn out. Not thinking of all the extra weight I dropped the clutch at about 7000 rpm. Well I also
dropped the drive shaft right in the middle of the street.........the good ol days.

    Some suspension tweaks
In 1980; a `69 Chevelle with the awe inspiring 307/Powerglide/open rear-end combination. Some kid loaded it up with an aluminum intake and giant 4 barrel carb, headers and straight through zoomie mufflers, air shocks, slotted aluminum wheels with L60-14 back tires, and fake fur on the console armrest. It did have a real nice black metallic paint job. Over a couple years I morphed it through several versions of 350/4 speed combinations. Once the fender rot started to show up I just beat the living snot out of it.
Oh, the days of no responsibility....

I'm feeling a bit old right now, my first was a '63 Chevy II Nova SS I got in 1970, it looked like this but it was a rust bucket. I got it with a straight 6 with a power-glide (power slide) floor shift tranny. Wish I had that thing today!1963 Nova.jpg

Nice! We had a '62 4-door with the straight 6 and 3 on the tree when I was a kid. Good solid car.

A high school bud was given a "64" with the 195 HP 283 V8 for his 16th birthday in 73. We had a lot of fun with that car.

Does it count as a first car if I got two at the same time?
Maybe as first plus 3/4. Second was a parts car that some kid relocated trunk to the backseat.

Friend of mine when I was in the USAF had a Che'Vette' and he'd say he had a Vette in the bars around women, it actually worked for him too.

My first car was a 1977 Chevette Scooter... a tire roasting, pavement churning 57hp 1.4 3 speed auto... had no driver side floor board, I used piece of plywood with a couple of 2x2 screwed to it, had to get out of the car during winter to knock the snow out from under it to use the pedals... braking was primarily by use of handbrake (parking brake).... didn't know anything about the workings of the internal combustion engine, soooo seldom did anything about oil etc. I loved that car, it was slower than molasses in January but it would go anywhere I pointed the front end.

Without the floorboard, you always had the Fred Flintstone brake option.

Funny you say that bobeast... I did do that on one occasion, but not by choice and we were literally just crawling... it took both of us (my passenger floor wasn't much better) to bring it to a standstill. But being the punk ass I was, I kept driving that thing till the day it grenaded at my friends shop.

It was a1967 Chevrolet Corvair, with a 3 speed manual on the floor. It needed a clutch, my first real automotive repair at 16 years old. We fixed everything ourselves in those days (1974). It cost me all of $50.00. My first new car i bought in 1979 was a Ford Fiesta and was built in Germany i believe, sold by Ford. It had a 1.6 liter motor i think and was a good little first car. It cost $3900.00 and i was able to get my first auto loan. Those were good days for sure.

My dad bought me a 1989 Nissan 240sx that had a 5 speed. It would burn through 1st and 2nd and bark 3rd and top out at 125mph... for a 4 cylinder it would run! I sure do miss it and if I were to buy one again, I would make it an all out drift car. Here's a pic I found online of one very similar to it...

The first car I bought was a 1971 Chevy Vega with a blown-up 4 cyl engine.

Since I was taking Auto Shop in school, it became my class project to install a small block Chevy motor in that thing. Hooker Headers made an adapter kit of sorts and we had everything running in one semester.

First time I drove it, I grenaded the stock, little Vega 10 bolt rear end. I had a local shop narrow a Chevelle 12 bolt rear end and weld the Vega mounts on it and stuck that in.

I drove (and raced) that car for about 5 years before trading it for a 75 Chevy Stepside truck with a 454.

'66 Pontiac GTO, bought in April, '67, my last month in Infantry OCS, Ft Benning, GA. Around $3K as I recall. Yellow, black interior, 4 on the floor, no A/C. In that my first duty station after OCS was flight school in TX (in mid-summer), I didn't keep it long. Bought a new '67 Olds 442 WITH A/C!! And my new bride couldn't drive the standard shift, anyway, so the 442 was auto tranny. (Now who's the old guy?)

Bought a basket case for $250 in 10th grade. Restored it back to original and drove it in our homecoming parade in 12 grade. (Went to HS with John Elway.) Awsome quarterback back then. But he didn't know me from Adam. I'll blame it on being a huge school!

Nice car. Did you go to Granada Hills High School? I know Elways' freshman year was at Pullman HS then transferred to Granada Hills. I lived in Van Nuys for way too long. Elway set a bunch of high school records at GranadaHills HS. It's a charter school now. The football stadium is named after him. Dedication day in 1998: [IMG]

I had a 91 toyota pickup. 3.0l 5 speed. More rust than paint... dad taught me how to drive manual in the school parking lot in the mtns.... that thing took so much shit I threw at it. Sold it with 235k miles for 1500 bucks and bought a dodge dakota.... oh good times good times....
