Anyone know the purpose of this pedal/switch? I have an idea after i hit it accidently a couple years ago not realizing it was really there and freaking out when my truck wouldnt start. I know older vehicles this would be the brights but from what I understand its a kill switch. Anyone know exactly what it does would be helpful. Thank you have a good day. Stay safe.

On some really older vehicles that floor switch could also be the starter.

Cnoyes72 is right that was a high beam switch on old cars if I remember correctly possibly in the 70s popular with GM vehicles

Some police departments will install them as a kill switch. Keeps people from borrowing their cars.

It definitely looks like a old school high beam on off foot switch.
If it is a kill switch it either breaks the positive or negative contact.

This truck I drove was a full size Ford, but it was a Ranger, single cab, rear sliding window, dual tanks, small block V8

Prior owner most likely added the high beam headlight switch as an ignition kill switch.

Its definitely a kill switch of some kind. If I push my emergency brake in I hit it. And when I try to start truck again all my electric turn on it just doesnt turn the engine. But like why is it in my truck. I have a 2011. Im not that old at 37 so I never drove a vehicle with it but I remember my parents vehicles having them on their cars and usually it was brights. Ill have to check my dads 64 mustang and see if he has it on his. Thanks for the input, I just want to know if anyone else has this in their tundra.

Because some goofball who had the truck before you thought they needed it there?
You know it is a Kill Switch it sounds like and if you dont like it or want it there then just move it or remove it!

Not factory. From the way the carpet is cut, obviously a one-off customization.

As to why, only the installer knows for sure.

If the parking brake hits it, maybe they installed it as a kill switch for the ignition for security. Someone looking to steal a Tundra would probably have the means to do so, then be deterred when it wouldnt start.

Adjust your parking brake so it doesnt go down as far? I keep might tights to it only presses down 2-3"

If the parking brake triggers it maybe the previous owner's wife had the habit of not disengaging the parking brake before speeding away and he got tired of replacing pads. If the brake is engaged truck no start.
