What part am I missing (tailgate lock mechanism)?

So I have a 2007 Tundra with power locks. The tailgate has a lock cylinder, the key fits in it and turns the lock cylinder just fine, but nothing happens (can't lock the tailgate).

I recall seeing a photo of a tailgate lock here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/tailgate-lock-unlock.41845/ and it looks like it clearly has something that my truck is missing, which is likely why the cylinder will turn with the key, but it doesn't lock or unlock the tailgate.

I went on the online parts database: https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/tundra/usk51/3918/body/6553/69759E/ and it looks like I'm missing 69759E SNAP, TAIL GATE LOCK LINK along with 65768A STRIKER, TAIL GATE LOCK and some screws. Is that about it?

I wouldn't have expected to encounter such a problem (missing parts from a lock mechanism), and wanted to make sure I get it all squared away before I have a Pop-a-Lock mechanism installed to enable power tailgate locking & unlocking. Don't wanna find out I'm still missing additional parts to make it work.

I think you could skip the repair and just install the pop-and-lock and it should work fine. My key doesn't work in the tailgate for whatever reason and it's never been a problem.



You could also use this as an opportunity to replace the tailgate handle with one that has a backup camera built-in.

 

I wasn't sure if it would work without the missing part. Also, I'd really wanna make sure there's a backup option to open the tailgate manually (eg if battery is dead).

Already on it Just wanna make sure I have the necessary parts for the lock as well.

You’re missing the piece that goes from the lock cylinder to the plastic mechanism for the handle. I’ve circled the area in red.

 

Weird. I can't even find that part on the parts diagram...??

 

Unfortunately it appears to be part of the lock cylinder assembly. Part number
69055-0C010

 

So to fix this, I gotta buy a new cylinder and pay for a rekey? That sucks…. Oh well. Thanks; at least I have a solution. Hopefully Toyota can order the lock cylinder already keyed to my key based on VIN.

 

I may have a spare lock cylinder I can pull that piece off of. Is yours damaged or is that piece just missing? Can you post a close up photo?

 

Junkyard, look for one that was rear ended. $5 to get into a pull your part place and wander around.

also possible your piece fell off and is in the bottom of tailgate. A mirror, flashlight, and you might get lucky.

 

Yea...its got a piece of metal chipped off the back, which is why the piece is missing. I'm just gonna get a new one, as I'm gonna need reliable access to the trunkbed. Thanks so much.

 

K one more question.

The OEM keyfob works fine; it locks and unlocks the doors and the hazards flash as they're supposed to.

Is the alarm also wired to the tailgate? Ie if the tailgate is opened while the truck is locked and alarmed, is the alarm supposed to go off? Cuz right now I can lock/arm the truck, and open the (unlocked) tailgate (which I can't lock yet due to the above issue), and the alarm doesn't go off. Doors remain locked. Wondering if it's because the tailgate has to be locked to be armed? I would think there's a tailgate open/closed sensor just like the doors, that would set off the alarm if opened, irrespective of whether it's locked or not. But also I know these don't come with power tailgate locks.

Wanna make sure I'm not missing anything else, cuz after I get the new lock cylinder, and install the Pop & Lock, I'd like to ensure the tailgate is included in the factory alarm arming/disarming too.

You could add the lock solenoid and use your fob to lock and unlock the gate.

 

Yep, I purchased the Power Tailgate Lock Kit from Camerasource: https://www.camerasource.com/access...lgate-lock-kit-for-toyota-tundra-cspl-8547tun. But what I'm trying to figure out is, whether the factory alarm ties into the tailgate? And if not, has anyone modified it so it does?

 

I don’t believe the alarm is triggered by tailgate opening. You’d have to add a switch and then figure out if you can tie that into the alarm’s logic board.

 

I find that to be bizarre. Esp when so many people use these as work trucks, whether it be with a bed cover or topper. You'd want the bed secured too... :dunno:

Found this: . It's from 2005, so it's likely a Gen1 Tundra. But I'm assuming the individual door trigger wires in the fuse box are similar, if not identical. Guess we'll find out soon...
