What makes you happy?

Congrats!!

 

Any time I can just exist without giving a shit about anything… that’s a happy time. They’re rare but they do happen.

 

OK, my serious post on this one.

Sharing a nice bottle of wine with the wife - any time with her is good, but when we have wine on the patio while the grill/smoker is going seems to spark the best conversations for some weird reason.

Fire is relaxing, whether it be sitting by a campfire, firepit, or fireplace. Actually, "playing" in the fire, moving the half spent logs around to add more is quite therapeutic to me for some reason.

Nature is awesome when you can get away from people. Nothing quite like sitting in the woods as it starts to snow, or casting a topwater out on a smooth as glass pond/lake right before dusk, or how small and insignificant you feel when immersed in magnificent landscapes (mountains, canyons, etc), not to mention the night sky when away from city lights and you can see billions of stars.

Nature again - finding unexpected bugs/plants/animals in the backyard. They're all quite interesting if you take a minute to observe and engage your curiosity about them.

 

The Woman of course. Flyfishing, shooting, hunting, boating, wilderness. The happiest I've ever been was the 2.5 weeks I spent alone in the northern backcountry exploring small streams and lakes. I didn't see or speak to another person the entire time. Wish it were feasible to live like that long term. Dick Proenneke during his time living alone in Alaska must have been in pure heaven.

 

Oh man! Looks like deer hunting paradise!

 

Speaking of which, spending time with the wifey, hunting, fishing, camping, drawing/sketching and painting all make me happy.

 

Sleep. Falling into a little snatch of death with no dreams or thoughts to disturb me. It's peaceful, and peace is happiness.

I have been married to my wonderful wife for 33 years now and nothing makes me happier than when we are out riding our bicycles, walking the beach or hanging out in the pool. She still flips my trigger. Life has been great thus far.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the kids but I am a little miffed with them right now because they haven’t produced grand children. JK

 

Hanging out with my puppy. Learning songs on guitar. Seeing my puppy run away when I play guitar. Seeing my puppy come back and bite my guitar.
