Without a teacher union representative (attorney), nothing would be getting done. As it is, the district has been dragging their feet in response to the filing of a grievance and their subsequent response(s). It's going to have to come to a class action lawsuit for them to do anything. They're putting in a new HVAC system but the source of the problem isn't being addressed. The building is old but the roof should be completely redone. They would rather throw out another bond for the public to pay for so they can build a new stadium and more new school buildings. The ironic thing is not two blocks down the road the district admin sits in a brand new $14M building where they have zero issues with mold aka "dirt"

Gather up the materials that have "dirt" and hand deliver them to their office maybe?

Truthfully, if there is a local investigative reporter for a news network, then that might be the thing that lights a fire.

They'd be all over that, especially since children are involved.

I'm in. I need to come up with a good scam like that. I figure if I advertise in every facet of everybody's life they'll have no choice but to check it out out of sheer curiosity.

When people who work in HR don't know their own rules.

I took two days off in January when I got covid. At my office you log the days as normal sick time, then fill out a form and they convert it to count as covid days, so you don't lose your sick time. I followed the course.

This HR guy called me and left a voice mail Friday night. He pinged me first thing Monday morning saying he hopes I feel better and if there's anything I need, just reach out. I told him thanks but I'm fine, covid is long gone and wasn't even bad.

Today he pinged me asking if I had taken days off for covid. I told him 2 days and provided the dates. He asked me if I uploaded positive test results to HR. I told him no, I don't see that as a requirement. I took a test and threw it away. He asked again as if shocked, "You threw away the results?" Yeah, it was a home test. Once I saw results I trashed it.

So he tells me that I don't qualify for covid sick time, he's closing my case. Then asks if I have any questions. I said why don't I qualify? He answered that it is company policy to deny the covid hours if no positive results are provided.

So, I pulled up the company employee web site where they post news, employee resources, things like that. I took screen shots of the company protocol for covid sick time. It actually says you qualify for it if you've been "potentially exposed", no test needed, you don't even need to be positive. I sent him the screen shot. Then I opened the official company Covid FAQ, it also says the same, sent him that. Then pulled up a CDC guideline saying they're not allowed to ask me for covid test results to qualify for the time off. Sent him that. Then I asked him to show me the guide he is following that says I need to provide a test. He stopped responding.

I reached out to a VP from HR to let her know. I'm not at all worried about 2 days of sick time, but if this guy doesn't know what he's doing he's a risk. Others who don't have sick time and need the relief won't be as kind as me about it. She said don't message him, she will take care of it.

Either he's a risk because he doesn't know how to do his job, or he's a risk because he's on a power trip. Either way, not a good HR fit.

I'm guessing a bit of both. I looked him up, hes in the "talent acquisition" group, so he should be worrying about hiring people, not worrying about if their sick time is right.

@Darkness - that's fantastic. If only more people today had the courage and backbone to stand up for the principals of the matters at hand I believe we'd be in a much different world.

I have lost all hope for my HR dept. My position qualifies as one of the positions which an employer could be reimbursed employee sick time by govt, but also my employer can opt out of covering for covid time off. Add to that a position which I/we couldn't work from home. So what employer do? Not cover the employees time off due to covid. Gave no reason, just said no we're not doing it.

I can relate to you above: I don't care personally as I have a loaded sick bank, but some guys didn't and had to use other personal time (vaca... Ouch).

On the other side of things, I get that this is their option/choice. To not give a reasonable accommodation that would cost them nothing out of pocket to show their workforce they care about them was totally their call to deny. I guess I should have expected this when I attempted to use sick time to be with my wife and newborn (after never using a sick day on the job) and they said I could use 3 days of sick time
They must have not gotten an FMLA update from 1993.

Sorry for tangent.. I meant to say I see you @Darkness

More "makes me roll my eyes" than angry, but we had a relative pass a few years back and now everything mail goes to our address. A healthcare company keeps sending him letters and stuff even though we've let them know he passed.

We've lived in our house for over 3 years and still get mail for the previous owners, despite sending it all back with a note that says "MOVED". I've actually called two places that send stuff regularly; one promised to contact them and update their mailing address; the other one "can't look up current customers with only their name and no birthdate".

My leading theories are that either the mail rooms in these big companies don't talk to anyone else or Canada Post is just throwing out mail that says RTS, rather than actually sending it back.

I figure at this point, if I've contacted the senders myself and they don't get it, the mail can go in the recycle.

Gonna disagree with you there. It makes me happy to see no spectators at the Olympics. Hopefully people stop watching them altogether. They need to be completely revamped. Put it in Athens.
Been in our place since 2019. Still get a couple pieces of mail each year for the previous owner. We just RTS. We did get a Christmas postcard this year addressed to the previous owners...from the realtor who sold the house to us. You think of all people who would know they moved, it'd be the listing realtor.

When my company decides to spend a shit ton of money fixing something that isn't broken.

We have a platform which people from our software development teams use to track work theyre doing and changes to software that they're making. Its pretty easy and simple. If a change is needed on a software or application, you write out a ticket with the details and attach documents to it. Then that ticket gets assigned to a developer and an analyst, ticket gets passed back and forth as progress is made. Once the work is done and moved into production, ticket gets closed and holds the history of that change. It has worked well since at least 2015.

They found a new platform which does the same thing, except it makes the tickets more complicated and has weird access limitations. I hate change, but I put that aside and figured it will be a bumpy ride at first but I'll get used to it. Here's where the fails start.

The plan was to get everybody access, pick a Friday night to freeze the original platform, then transition all live tickets to the new platform, reconcile, and we can start using the new platform on Monday. Sounds good.

Except... each user needs a unique license. They underestimated the number of users so we are short on licenses, so some people don't have access to the new platform, myself included. So step one failed, fuck it let's proceed with step two. They froze the original platform last night (instead of Friday night), even though a lot of teams have releases to push to production next Tuesday. We can't make updates, we can't document anything, we can't even make new tickets if issues pop up and thats a daily occurrence. I will stay tuned for step 3, but I won't have anything to complain about until I have access.

For perspective I have 14 tickets that are moving into production next week. Those tickets are fine since everything is done aside from the transfer from the staging environment to the production one. I also have a string of 43 tickets that are active to create 16 data tables and several jobs to move data around. Those are things in flight which we had a one week headstart on, but this platform transfer is killing the headstart. Now those tickets can't be updated, so any changes are undocumented.

To add to that, my chicken burrito doesn't have much chicken in it, the chicken it does have is all burnt. Wtf el pollo loco?

Wanna hear the real bad part? At least in the US, if the previous occupant of your house didn't update their drivers license address, they can go to the post office and have your mail put on holiday hold so that it all stays at the post office. Then they casually stroll in, present their ID, and take all of your mail, regardless of whose name is on it. I know because it happened to me a few years back while I was out of the country for 10 days.

Post office accepts no liability because a drivers license to your address is all they have on policy, they assume the occupancy is legit and covers all mail to the address.

There are 3 ways to do things.
    1. The right way.
    2. The wrong way.
    3. The (insert company name) way.
What's that 3rd one you say? Well it's a whole lot like the wrong way, but it's more expensive.

Sounds like I'm not the only one working at a place that does it the 3rd way.

    What a scam.

Some of the mail we're getting is from insurance companies so I'm a little concerned these guys might still have insurance on my house. I can just imagine how fucked I'd be if I had some kind of claim and they somehow found out and tried to file it.

People who don't know how roundabouts work.

People who pass you and then go slower.

People who pass you while you're going uphill towing a trailer and then put their brakes on because they are mad you are in the middle lane instead of going 25MPH slower in the right lane behind all the trucks when there's plenty of room in the damned fast lane for them to just pass you like normal people.

    .....People.
