Reminds me of a meeting we had a few years back. I work on an Army post, and the major commands (CBRN, MPs, etc.) all have flags on poles lining the roads (or they did, anyways). One of our coworkers suggested we have our MACOM's guidon on poles along the road as well. The director asked why, and the guy responded (and I kid you not - I'm quoting him verbatim) with

"So people will know we are important."

Freaking rodents. I have one persistent SOB that apparently has no sense of smell. Damn thing keeps trying to build a nest in my engine bay behind my abs module. I pull the material out every morning. It actually went down the road and retrieved an onion that it had the night prior. I threw the damn onion a hundred feet down the road.
I have tried peppermint oil, soaked it into old tree air fresheners and hung them on the bottom mount of the struts. Damn rodent tried to use it as part of the nest.
I have tried cayenne pepper powder HEAVILY sprinkled around the tires, on the inner fenders, and on the engine cover. Damn rodent stood on the engine cover IN the pepper powder to rip part of the insulation off the firewall.

Next time I go to town, I'm buying traps. It will meet its end either with a snap trap or a 22lr.

Currently living in a national forest, parked 20ft from one brush pile, and 10ft from another. They just got the last piece of logging equipment from this site yesterday, I SHOULD be moving to a spot in the wide open on monday/tuesday once they figure out where the yarder is going to run cables.

They chew through the damn strings on the bag. i have traps with peanut butter set up. 5 in engine bay 1 in glove box with no results after 2 weeks. I'm at my wits end right now. I want to put a damn snake in the cabin filter housing, but then i need an eagle to catch the snake....Arrrrrggggghhhh. Rant Over.

Out here in the desert, people put a light under the truck and pop the hood, apparently they don’t like the light and the open hood doesn’t store needed heat for them

I feed about 5 neighbor cats and a pack of deer to keep the riffraff out. The dog is no help.

They'll eat unprotected plants, but i'm just a stop on their neighborhood tour. Some camp here overnight, but they've got an area they stay at. Pretty sure there are some rattlesnakes holding the fort, too.

For you guys with rodent problems... I'd think sticky traps might work better than clap-traps? Had a sneaky bastard in the house years ago. Little Houdini would trip the trap without getting caught then eat all the bait. He wasn't able to figure out the glue trap and I finally got him!

When I was at Ft Bragg, I lived in one of the condemned barracks. We had major issues with black mold, laundry room that flooded and only half of the washers & dryers worked, a huge crack cutting the building in half making 4 rooms on each floor unusable (only had 10 of us in the entire building so wasnt an issue), and mice. LOTS of mice.
Command told us we couldn't use snap traps because someone might accidentally step on one. So, we used glue traps. I ordered a case of 100 and started using them. More than once, I found mice that were in a full run when they caught their front feet on the trap. Then their chins hit the trap, they flipped over and their back hit the trap. It was almost comical to see how contorted they got when they hit the traps at a run.
What's even funnier is that it was slotted for demolition, and we were supposed to move across the quad into its sister building. One night, I heard flash bangs and doors being kicked in. SF was doing room clearing training in the building we were supposed to be moving to. The following day they started tearing down the good building. It wasn't until they had the entire roof torn down and part of the 3rd floor destroyed before they finally listened to someone and realized they were tearing down the wrong building.

A company you’ve given 4 years to effectively saying “F you”.

After the latest go round and 2 months after being “promised” a raise with no action - I just said “thanks - but I’m going a different direction” - so they come back - “give us a week to wrap this up” - said fine - but Oct 31st I will give my 2 weeks - no hard feelings, let’s just be a faults and move on if you can’t do it - and the last 2 weeks I’ll make the rounds to customers and share I’m moving on and help set up the next person.

So call this morning at 9am sharp - figure ok. Either they did something or they can’t and the boss is calling to say thanks and let me know. Nope - boss calling - he was directed to FIRE ME ASAP ! Collect company equipment and vehicle - just letting me know that he told them he couldn’t do this until Friday as he’s out of office - so they told him fine - just plan on showing up at my door Friday to demand return but don’t tell me.

Of course he just called me to give the courtesy heads up and lmk if anyone emails/calls act like it’s business as usual - he will collect stuff Friday.

What an absolute crock though - can’t have the decency to be adult about it. And what’s worse is I’m not going to a competitor. I’d maybe see if I could take some “secret” - but I’m going to a company out of state. Also coincidentally- I have a small bonus due Nov 1 and another bonus owed to me that they had to wait until Nov 1 to process for “accounting reasons” - doubt either get honored now. Finally - I’d completely understand if they said - “sorry - but can’t risk you being on payroll while working out your 2 weeks - here is 2 weeks salary but don’t report to work” (last employer did this and it’s common practice) - but nope - it’s “termination of at will employment” and no salary or benefits beyond the date of term (so I’ve got 8 days unpaid until new job starts and no health insurance….time to refill all maintenance meds today - part of why boss called me to share heads up and let me know he bought me a few days to get it all in order).

Corporate America at its lowest - I swear. Of course you have to be “unemployed” a week to file so I can’t even file for that.

Unfortunately this is pretty common practice. Once a company finds out you are leaving, they generally escort you to the door. You received some very sound advice in your previous post asking about whether or not you should stay in your current job or go. Good luck in your new job.

It is coming to this...Pretty soon you will be able to screw up your own order! I see it coming, you will soon pay for the privilege of making your own burger at Micky D's I am so damn tired of checking out my own shit at the store anymore. Thanks Walmart, cheap bastards. Even the damn supermarkets are doing this now. I would rather have some pimply faced kid check my shit out, just so that I can be a pita.

What I don't understand is having to wait in line because only half the self checkouts (which Walmart forces you to use) are "open". Just turn the fucking things on!

So your boss won't be able to actually fire you until Friday, but gave you a courtesy heads up? Perfect, you haven't been officially fired yet. Go in today and give your 2 weeks notice effective immediately, but make sure not to mention you know a firing is coming down the pipe. They'll probably escort you out but will likely still have to honor everything you're owed.

A friend of mine had this happen, though he overheard a conversation through an open door and wasn't given a courtesy heads up. He heard "so we're firing Bob on Friday. Don't tell him until then though." He turned in his notice within the hour. The company was PISSED as they were on the hook for severence, the bonus he was owed (his contract said he would lose it if he was fired but would still get it if he resigned) and his benefits wouldn't be cut off immediately.

The company I worked for when I retired would give management a months severance for every year they worked. I had 9 years and 9 months before my planned retirement date I notified then in writing. Didn't work as planned. I got stuck being there until my last day.

Sorry you're going through this, but from your other thread there were red flags all over that the company you work(ed) for were petty asshats. Your manager (who seems to be the only decent person there and whom you seem to have a good relationship with) can only do so much in these situations.

Let this be a lesson to everyone. Never, EVER, (if at all possible to delay) let a company know you're leaving if a bonus is set to be paid soon. Let that check clear THEN put in your notice. 99% of the time they'll try to screw you out of it.
Then they bitch and moan wondering why employees quit without notice and leave them hanging. This is why. Anytime a guy tries to do the right thing he gets f**ked.
