I can track with you on initial purchase price. But let's be hypothetical about the average American. Let's say a family makes the average wage (what is that $60k / year?). And this average family bought an average home for ($150k ?).

Now they've lived there for 10 years, and after 10 years of average wage raises (2%), they now make $73,000. But their home is now worth $300,000. Does that mean they can afford a $300,000 home? No, of course not. But they are being penalized via taxation as if they could, simply because their neighbors spent $300k.

I do understand the argument that when they sell, they likely will not incur a tax debt due to the sale (depending on tax codes in the area). And I would argue that at the time of sale is when tax values should be set, and if that means some kind of tax on gains, then so be it. At least that is more fair as it is based on $ put in my pocket.

I agree with you 100%, I bought my house 22 years ago for 1/4-1/5 what the current prices on my block are, and I have had the same increase in property tax all while making the same or less and it sucks. I would elaborate further, but like I said, I don't want to get banned for talking politics.

Pretty much identical in my civvie work place. Just instead of hand grenade, IED is the violence of choice. Also, the step about asking an armorer is differnent. It's "Tell manager you need to bump off work early to gather materials and create IED".

We don't have to print them, the system adds the completion date and test score to your transcript.

Except when it doesn't (more often than you would think) so you have to take the training again. So now here is how I do it.

    1. Log in to training site.
    2. Go to "Library"
    3. Search under required training, find nothing.
    4. Go back to email that states which training you need to do, copy code.
    5. Go back to your library, paste and search.
    6. Hope the correct training pops up.
    7. Click launch content.
    8. Remember to enable pop-up for the site, relaunch training.
    9. Click yes, delete old records if it's a yearly training.
    10. Hope like hell that you can click right to the test at the end, realize that no, you must watch the whole damned thing.
    11. Try not to fall asleep.
    12. Take test.
    13. Hopefully pass, because you didn't pay attention.
    14. Pass the test, but don't hit complete until you take a screen shot of the test results.
    15. Click complete course.
    16. Check transcript, see that it did not record your score.
    17. Email the screen shot to the training department.
    18. Wait until they email you back saying they fixed it.
    19. Save the email.
    20. Wait until you get an email saying that you are now late for completing said training.
    21. Respond to this email with the screen shot and their original email saying that they fixed it.
    22. Rinse and repeat.

We get monthly "learning update" emails and this tip is in there every month.

My old company would let you challenge the test on a recertification.

Microsoft Teams meetings and work from home can fuck right off.

    1. There's no reason for it. Everyone is here, get everyone together in a room. If people working from home are important enough to be in the meeting, they're important enough to be on site. Get their asses in the office where it belongs.

    2. They've been a thing for how long now and your dumb ass still can't remember to unmute when talking, you still haven't bought even a $30 set of headphones so you can hear us and we can hear you, and you still haven't figured out the most rudimentary of tech skills to operate the system. Clearly you're incapable of managing basic technology so get your ass in the office where it belongs.

    3. Wait until the person talking has finished before you open your big mouth. Normal human conversation patterns are royally fucked up by online delay. Learn this. Understand this. Adapt. Either that or get your ass in the office where it belongs.

    4. Don't open with "hey this is so and so...". We know. Your name is displayed and lights up.

    5. Turn off your camera. Showing your face adds zero value, we don't need to see you picking your nose and you're ugly. If you really think it's important to show your face, get your ass in the office where it belongs.

    6. Everyone does this, but engineers in particular: Once an idea is presented, unless you're actually proposing a legitimate change to it you need to shut. the. fuck. up. We don't need to hear you present the same idea worded a slightly different way just to try and preen your fragile ego. If the idea is to move the red ball from point A to point B, I don't need you to chime in with "hey, we should get the ball that is red and relocate it to point B from point A".

    7. If you have a heavy accent, take that into consideration. Once again, online delays and quality fuck with normal conversation. Slow down. Enunciate. Or get your ass in the office where it belongs.

    8. Solve all these problems by deleting Teams and getting your ass in the office where it belongs. Fuck teams. Fuck work from home people. This shit might work in 100% online jobs like software or something, but it's completely unacceptable for a construction job.

As far as I'm concerned, if it can be covered in a team's meeting, then it can be covered in an email. Sick of this too and I don't even have a desk/office job. Someone always has their mic on and their dog starts barking or a marching band is going through their living room, whatever...

    Fuck teams meetings.

I'm bro crushing so hard right now. :anonymous:

The only one I would disagree with at all is number 4, and ONLY because our meetings are frequently with people I don't interact with and so I don't know their voice. I have to observe other things than the teams screen when these go on, so the strictly visual cue of the name lighting up doesn't work in my situation. Still, 99.999999% agree. :fistbump:

Fuck email too. Come talk to me. We'll solve the issue in 5 minutes instead of 2 days of back and forth emails.

If I don't interact with someone enough to know their voice, they're not relevant to me and don't need to be at the meeting.

There are enough people around for whom this was a problem long before remote work. I can't count the number of co-workers I have who can ask a question and not even briefly pause speaking. If you're going to answer your own question, don't bother asking it.

The one that burns me is over the last couple years our company has outsourced a bunch of jobs to India (yes, that in itself makes me angry too) then they told us we all have to be on site once a week. Then, once that started, someone clued in that none of our meeting rooms are set up to work with Teams. So we all get to come to site one day a week so we can sit at our desks in Teams meetings with our teams that are half down the hall from us and half on the other side of the world.

Wouldn't need two days of emails if the recipient would fucking read what I already put in the email. Sorry, I don't want a train of jackasses lined up at my desk all day keeping me from doing what I actually need to do. I'll deal with the smart people and their emails right away (might even call if necessary), the lazy/dumbasses/stupid questions the sender should already know answers to can wait until I'm in the right frame of mind to deal with their nonsense.

As for teams meetings... that first post pretty much nailed it.

Dogs, noisy ass kids, tv's, appliances really jack up the audio for everyone.

Someone is always distracted then trying to jump back into a topic we moved on from 5 minutes ago. Usually with a question that's already been answered.

One asshole always has to bring another issue up because someone else involved in that project happens to be online. Go ahead, talk about something else, the other 20 of us (3 of which actually need to be on the call) can wait for your entitled ass.

Which reminds me... jackasses who send the meeting out to everyone under God instead of just the people who need to be there.

And one more, the guy who starts blocking a shit-ton of timeslots in everyone's calendar "just in case we need the time", promptly go fuck yourself.

If we're to work from the office because it's beneficial for some reason, then Teams meetings should be disallowed. I will grant if an outside vendor needs involved, they can call in to the meeting rooms like we did pre-covid.
