My state has a common enemy doctrine. Basically says there's nothing a downhill property owner can do about natural runoff from those above him. The moment you divert water and it has a negative affect on those below you, that's a problem.

One thing that drives me nuts. Well, maybe two.
First: Our home is in the middle of the woods. There may be two days a year we need the central air. Our finished basement is below grade and stays cool. On humid days I close the door and vents to the basement and run a dehumidifier down there. Mother in Law was visiting and would not close the basement door while the dehumidifier was running. After asking her multiple times she said it works so much better if the door is left open.:annoyed:

Second and it involves the same person. Those that listen to reply not to understand. It's nearly impossible to finish a sentence with her before she tells you what she knows about it.:censored:

There is a reason for blocking pumps. They park there, go in for 20 minutes and prepay pump 9 for 5 bucks. Come back out after swapping lies with the rest of the pump blockers and put enough gas in to get to the next station where they repeat the process.

Do you mean why do they do this? If so, I'm clueless. I'm not a local here. The folks here are great people with just a few odd quirks. It's in the Tuscarawas river basin and many folks are born and die here without traveling much further than the surround hills. BTW, no pump blockers drive Toyotas. Chevy, Fords and Ram with the occasional IH, John Deere or Harley just to spice it up. Mostly older farts....like me.

Our now former home town had a BBQ festival this past week. Same week every year it never fails, it's the hottest week on record each year. Each and Every Year. On top of that they do not hold it at some green space they hold it in the middle of freakin' main street. 6 lanes blocked off so all that southern asphalt can cook the soles of your shoes and radiate up making it all the hotter. Heat index on Friday was 105.
They always brag about how many people showed up but never answer the question how many would have shown up if it were held in Sept or April? It's been requested to be moved to a better time but all these football fans refuse to move it to the fall because their losing team needs them to show up to support their losing program. (County Counselman actually told me this once, they not going to move it because he'll miss gamecock football, like they would miss him at either event).

Traffic makes me angry, especially after about hour 10 on the road. We just did TX to MO, then drove back a week later. About 14 hours each way depending on stops, and yes, we do it in one day.

FFS, Gas is $4-$5 a gallon, everybody is bitching about it, you'd think a few of these fuckers would be staying home. Nope!

The air conditioning system I paid $300 to have recharged last summer works for one day then stops cooling the house?!

Normally, yah. Last summer was an exception. We almost died after multiple days above 85 and some up to 110.

My neighbor spent most of his professional life in HVAC. He said if a service man ever tells you the system needs freon, ask him to show you where the leak is/was and whether he fixed the leak. It's a closed system, so IF the freon is low, it's leaving the system somewhere (and shouldn't be). Apparently this is the oldest trick in the book to add $ to a bill for unsuspecting customers.

Loose Schrader caps is usually where it comes out from unless you have a real issue. Service techs are lazy and won’t even put them on when they’re done.

The guy who came out last year found a pinched gasket in one of the condenser (Schraeder) valves and I stood there and watched him recharge the system. That's literally the only thing he did and it worked afterwards... :notsure:

I went and worked on my buddies unit yesterday, just got looked at by a company; kid was on the phone the entire time and then tells them they need a new TXV at about 1200(that’s cheap!)
I get there and right on the condenser it says piston………. Hahahaha so I hosed down the coil(had been tripping on high head) and told them when it wasn’t 107, I’d come adjust the charge, but I found all the caps on the ground, probably from when the house got sold and someone just dropped some juice in and took off.

What makes me mad? Drugs. I wrote a whole diatribe but ventured into TMI, so I nuked most of it.

Ruined so many lives in my family and is still ruining them.

I bought a house awhile back, hired a HVAC company to do some PM on the systems and give them a once over. They ended up doing more harm than good. Techs don't get paid but $35 for a service call, so they only make money when they sell you something.

    * Left caps off refrigerant of both units (mega epa violation, they got fined $50k for violating the clean air act on that one, wouldn't have turned them in but they sabotaged my systems, see below)
    * replaced all of my working capacitors with failed units (caught him doing the switcharoo on the last one, "hey buddy that isn't the one you took off and showed me was out of spec") Wanted $375 each for a $12-$15 part. There were 6 in total.
    * swapped out a working water sensor / unit cutoff switch with a broken one
    * Left a wire loose on a blower motor in a unit in the attic, so it'd go out in a couple of weeks, trying to sell me a new motor
    * Didn't think I could do math and tried to sell me on more return air ducts
    * Cracked a condensation pipe causing a leak near the fire box corroding the burners
    * Told me my units maybe had a a year left and wanted $12 grand each to replace
    * a couple of other known things needed adjusting but if he left them alone, the whole system would break and he could sell me a new unit

So instead of fixing my stuff, he tried to bilk me for $3k and left them in worse condition than before he came.

I had a guy from the coal mine come out, these things after he was done fixing what the other company broke will last 15+ more years.

Be warned: the more a company advertises, the further and faster you should run.

FYI, Comment was not that techs do it on purpose, it was that we lie about where the leak was cause we can't or don't want to find the leak. "Yes Sir, found that that real shitty company left the caps off, or they didn't put the o-ring back in the cap and the cores were leaking, or the last shitty company over tightened the caps causing the o-rings to crush and cores to leak. No Sir, I don't heed to go into the 130 degree attic and check the rusty evap coil for leaks. You should be fine."
