In the IT world we're starting to move away from UPS especially in an unmanaged office. Sales guy or office manager will hear the beeping of a dying UPS and just shut the door. Of course we don't pay to put the smart UPS on the network and monitor them...no, why use something the are built for. No they just kill the battery till the unit degrades enough to just die then they call the helpdesk, "Yeah we heard this thing for a long time, figured you all knew about it.".
But running a bread warmer off one!?

I get his frustration, but I don't think it's necessarily fair to call out Gen Z or any other Gen for this. Kids in general (not all) have been lazy, shitty workers for as long as I've been alive - and probably about as long as there have been jobs. I've known plenty of "adults" who were lazy, shitty workers too.

When I was in high school I used to work summers with the City Street Dept. (naturally with a couple of my friends - it was a small town). Somehow we got a little work done between screwing around and showing off for any girls that had the misfortune of being in the vicinity where we happened to be working. I certainly can't claim to have been a model employee at the time, but I wasn't the worst out there either. We still gave our supervisors their fair share of heartburn though. I imagine there were plenty of days they wished we HADN'T shown up for work!

We run our coffee maker off of one. Priorities. :D

Computer work gets backed up every night so a day's work lost isn't horrible.

Not enough, apparently...yet. This damn forum...
Here in NC, damn near everywhere has help wanted signs but yet the panhandlers are on EVERY major intersection...local TV did a bit on them a year or so ago and one of 'em actually said they could make more $ panhandling...and these fools here STILL hand over money left and right.

Plus, it's tax free. Add on food stamps, free food and clothing from multiple different sources, and don't forget free cash from multiple programs. There are people who will beg for money and at the end of the day walk over to a parking lot and get in their nice new car.
I am too proud to be a worthless drag on society.

I will admit to panhandling in my past. Was homeless, addicted, on the streets, blah blah blah.
Think I got about $3 all day. I can burn 2 gallons of gas and make between $50-$150 any day just cashing metal junk from the side of the road. Its honest, I feel accomplished at the end of the day, and I actually EARNED it.

I often wonder how many panhandlers out there actually need the money rather than desire it to pay for extras (i.e. alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc.) that they won't get from the homeless shelter.

I'm usually at odds when I see a woman with her children doing it.

I did have one chat me up at the car wash for a few bucks to take a shower at the YMCA because the shower at the homeless shelter was broken. Since I worked at the homeless shelter on occasion I quized him and he got my answers right, so I let have the benefit of the doubt. Probably lost it but oh well.

Those shelters are full of savages. Sleep with your bag as a pillow, keep your boots on, and leave one eye open. If they dont rob you while you sleep theyll just roll you for your shit. Its hard being homeless when it is not by choice.

The one in the city near me actually has lockers that people can put their stuff in as long as they bring a lock. Can’t really drag that stuff in the shower with you.

Getting a bed before they run out is a different story though.

The only problem with cutting out the idiot (making $20 minimum wage) is the machines are also crap and will malfunction, so you have to go find the one person working nearby, who doesn't know what they're doing and will immediately forget you asked for help. Then as you stand there wrangling your two year old and ask two more people, who ten+ minutes later finally arrive, they tell you the propane you paid for they do not have. Great. So now I go "return" the propane I paid for which they didn't have at customer service.

Also, Dear Machine. I did put my item in the bagging area. Sincerely, Annoyed Consumer.

    Okay I'm done now hahaha

My little buddy in the work van. Helps them with crazy high insurance. I drive like an old man any way. Told them if they go to driver face camera I would just quit. One of the few perks of this career, everyone's always hiring so you have some power.
