    Isn't it payload?

Like our trucks are 1/2 ton so they can carry about 1000lbs in the bed

    3/4 ton can carry 1500lb

    Etc

A military duece and a half can carry 5,000lbs

Maybe I'm wrong but that's my idea :D

I’m pretty sure he’s referring to what the sticker says is what goes. You can, of course, beef everything up to carry more but the letter of the law is defined by the sticker in your door jamb.

It isn't just suspension. As has been echoed in countless threads about this - there is much more to GVWR than suspension. Axles, frame strength, tires, etc all play a role. Go look at the axle assemblies on a Ford F150. Then go look at the axle assemblies on a Ford F350. Do the same for the frame. See if you notice any differences.

Texas,, they used to consider my old TSS a 1/2 ton and the last time I payed taxes they switched to to 3/4, I never asked why. I also haven’t check what they consider our new TRD Sport?? Here in Texas they give us a break on taxes on trucks!!:)
