yeah same here. if i can find a spot w/o cell service the better. there have been days where i go for 10-12 hrs of daylight fishing and not even get a bite. perfect day of nothing but nature and wasting time alone. just mindless looking at a bobber or casting from shore is good enough.

but i have to plan for it. its at least 45-60 min drive 1 way to a decent spot for me and probably $80 in gas/drinks/chips/bait, etc for a day out.

50 miles to either lake north of me or south of me.

Exceptions to every rule and an over generalization, but it was what I see 99% of my time outside and it drives me nuts. There are always people doing things the right way and more so doing them the wrong way and I personally see the negative all the time. A handful of the close to Boise camping spots have been permanently closed due to how badly people have ruined the area- were talking toxic levels of contaminants in the stream water, epic mountains of trash, multiple burned down RV's and vehicles, hundreds of shells from "patriots" left behind all over the place, etc- its disgusting. We have a family of 4 (2 year old and a new baby coming in 2 months) + a dog and will continue to use our Opus or a tent.

We camp a minimum of 30 days a year outside and I am out fishing/ hunting another 50+ of the year (way more pre kids). Our camper and your old one are very minimalistic vs your average house on wheels and id beg to differ on our trailers ability to go places, the only thing that would limit it vs your old one is super tight trails, besides that it looks to have higher ground clearance, better approach angles, and better suspension (no axle on the opus op4). I have had the thing sideways in Moab after slipping off a trail and it still tracked just fine and didn't flip over.

Ahh thats too bad (about the planning/drive part - the rest of it sounds awesome). I've only got about 15-20 minutes in the truck before I can get the waders wet. And another 10 for some of the wildest salmon fishing in the northeast if you dont mind holding hands or locking arms with 60 people per square foot during "the run". Outside of those windows it's way more subdued, but the strikes also drop considerably.

Yes, I absolutely agree. We actually did the full overhaul and coordinated the Tundra and TT (Imagine 2400BH) in the same year. We got to that point in life where we realized a cabin was never going to happen - this is our cabin.

I am (annoyingly) OCD and spent way too many hours researching and talking to people. I drew the line at this trailer, "Ok kids, wife, listen up. This is the absolute maximum size we are getting. Period, end of discussion" :p

Being under 30' also keeps a lot of doors open for the sites we want. We exclusively camp in National and Provincial/State Parks.

Also, important people realize the difference between advertised length and actual. I also have a 240BH (Coleman). It's 29' from bumper to hitch. A trailer listed at 30' would almost certainly be WAY to much trailer for my liking. Like I said above, my truck does great with this trailer. But when the kids are out we're downsizing to a 26(ish) and a bit lighter...

Yep, and that's because the model number and/or advertised length is the INSIDE length, not the outside length. You usually need to add roughly 5 feet to the inside length to get the overall length. Ours is a 24RLXLX (Wildwood), same general dimensions as yours. 24' inside, 29' overall length.

I generally get confused when people mention their trailer sizes on forums, so thanks for clarifying. I try to reference both numbers when I can - seems like a bunch of us are in the 24' floorplan - 29' total length category.

So back to OP, when you are asking about 28', which do you mean? If 28' total length, there's a lot of anecdotal confidence here. If 28' floorplan/model number, you are heading into 3/4 ton territory.

I once towed this guy: 2021 Grand Design Transcend 265BH for roughly 30 miles one way from the RV owners house to the campsite, what I didn't realize is that, this dude is super heavy and wayyyy over-weight and length-wise.
I did tow it slow, aka 55-60 mph, and took my time to get there safe. Never again.

The below is the latest numbers, but don't think it changed that much over the years, and the RV was loaded, so yea....
It did have a WDH which helped greatly and the weather was nice (cold but no wind) I believe the RV was loaded at close to 9000lbs(owner loaded).... me, wife, two kids, bags and firewood, I am pretty sure I was way over....
Next time, something smaller or just get a F350 to 5th-wheel it or just drive a damn motor home.
