Next to the rear view mirror? GPS antenna (my head unit doesn’t have NAV, btw)?

GPS antenna is on the dash. I thought that was the front camera and stuff for the lane assist. Does your truck have that though or did that start in 2018 with all the safety sense stuff.

it does. No front camera, but BSM and collision avoidance.
Sorry, just realized I need to update avatar and profile.
So "yes" to the tinfoil? LOL

Look from the front closely. I am pretty sure there is a small camera in there.

It works with the radar sensor in the grill for all the safety sense system. If pre collision and auto braking is activated it will take pictures of the “threat” at like .5 second intervals.

August of 2017 is when production changed to add all the Safety Sense system. I haven’t seen a 2018+ without a front camera yet.

The radio headunit, GPS antenna, network gateway is what is tracking you and sending that data to Toyota. All the guys with the new trucks and the app that can see ODO, Fuel, Remote Start ect on thier phone. If your phone can see the data so can Toyota. The network gateway is sending it out from the truck to a “network”

Any idea where? What it looks like? Not trying to be a douche, but I kind of miss the crummy nav from my 2014. Was wondering if I could merely swap head units with an OEM that “has NAV” already. I only use it to see upcoming bends in unfamiliar roads or named streets in a city. Any kind of “turn by turn” directions I was using Waze & now Apple Maps since their waze-esque traffic updates seem to be pretty on point.

I just don’t really wanna do the aftermarket thing.

I didn’t want to either. But Waze is just one awesome thing you get if you take the plunge. AE56E23B-9AC8-4D78-93D6-C917AF077395.jpg

That looks really slick. Is it apple car play nav or independent or both? What unit is that.

Yes, that is a camera. It is not a camera you can look through or access like your reverse camera, but the TSS system uses it for lane keep and collision avoidance.

Thanks! It’s the Pioneer DMH- WT8600NEX multimedia receiver. It allows for wireless Apple CarPlay, so you pick your own NAV app. You do give up the CD player, but I haven’t played a CD in a long time.

Older diagram, but it shows the routing. Not sure if the part # changed.

Don’t want to disagree with you, but:

Part # 86860 in the diagram.

    Where is it then?

    Function before sparkle.
    You are both right.

The circular item is the ambient light sensor.

On older Tundras there is also a GPS antenna in the dash in that location. 2014-2019 also are under the dash but it's a different antenna. 2020+ have relocated the GPS, AM/FM and XM to a single shark fin antenna on the roof.

Edit: the antenna on the outside of the roof at the front is just a sat radio antenna. And a poor one at that.

This is accurate. If you drive with the window in front of the camera frosted over you will get a TSS disabled error.

That's a big box for just a little camera. I bet they have all kinds of surveillance equipment tucked in there - listening to every word you say, tracking everywhere you go, taking air samples to see how often you bathe, what you had for lunch, if/what you smoke... I need more foil, my hat isn't big enough! :tinfoilhat:
