Yeah, the large tank is a big trade off for PL.

I traded it in for the Tundra. 2012 SR5 with 4wd. I think the thing that makes it so high is that since it’s a body-on-frame SUV, that frame needs to be strong enough to not move at all. It’s fully boxed all the way back.

Best vehicle I ever owned thus far. Took us on many adventures. Crawled over and through lots of stuff I didn’t think it could. With three growing kids and a big dog, we simply outgrew it for our adventures. We’re backpackers, so we pack light even when we car camp, and the Tundra payload works for me. It is kind of a head scratcher for sure.

Thats awesome! I didn’t a lot of 4x4 trails to fish, camp, hike in my Tacoma and absolutely loved it but we bought the travel trailer or I would of keep it, it is a bit small in the back for my growing kids so a tundra make sense with all that room in the back but the payload thing is a head scratcher.

This is the payload decal from my other vehicle.

When I weighted by Tundra at the scales to get the exact weight after a few accessories I installed (spray in bed liner, hard tonneau and running boards) my payload was down below the Camry. I guess I should have loaded the 800lbs of wood pellats in the Camry's trunk instead on the Tundra to stay legal.

My 2008 grade Crewmax payload is 1325lbs.
Been towing a 7k camper with 1k tongue weight all over the U.S. for the last 5 years. I have a family of four, 80lb lab & a cap on the Tundra. I pack reasonably light in the bed & stay under axle ratings(barely!). NO problems whatsoever. 182k and still trucking!

I’m sure I will go over payload here and there. I’m not worried about it as much as going over the axle ratings.
