    Hi,

I think it will be fine in winter. I live in NH so winters can get quite cold, but the plank I bought comes with some backing so it does have some insulation. I also have a heating zone there so if need be I can heat the basement up, but given that the boiler is right there in a closet it generally gives off enough heat to heat the whole area anyway. It has not been much colder down there with the new flooring, but we also haven't had many cold days in a row since I had It put in, so I won't know the real difference until next winter.

I have two cats and it has been a blessing overall, as I keep the litter boxes down there. It is so much easier to clean up after them, as I can sweep and mop it, as opposed to the carpet which just held in the stickiness of it all. I do highly recommend it if you have pets!

Sod’d it up today. Only had to lay about 120sq ft so it was a simple job. Got the weed block down. Not to spend the big bucks next week for the plants and rock then the front will be done.

Yup! Lucked out finding and then even being able to make an offer on the place. 2 2 car garages and they’re deep enough my Tundra fits in with about 2 feet to spare lengthwise. So super stoked. We looked at a bunch of places with detached shops but all of the houses on those properties needed crazy amounts of work. This one was ready to rock other than a few little easy things.

Decided to take on an elevated play house in the basement. We shall see how that goes. Will fit in this space above the toy organization. Wall studs are marked.

Won’t be that tall but still a decent area to hang out. 10’ wide x 3’-3” deep x 3’ tall.(9).

Neighbor just installed sod and had half a pallet left over he need to get rid of, so i hand tilled the area around the sand box, raised the sprinkler heads and wheelbarrowed the 50 pieces of sod from across the street. Wife and son approved

It is 1,000gal ,placed a 2 stage filter in the gutter. 1/2” expanded metal for the big stuff and a finer screen right at the inlet. There’s no practical way I know, to keep the water really clean. i would like to see your system.

So mine is nothing crazy, just barrels from work I’ve acquired; that help sustain filling my fish pond, the overflow when I do get any goes to a grape fruit tree, the roof section it draws from isn’t very big but this was just a learning experience. The first flush helps all the heavy debris that makes it thru your screen filter, settle and sink to the bottom. That leaf eater is a really easy and nice way to provide filtration, it’s also good against skeeters. Your supposed to flush after the first rain of each season but mine only holds maybe 2 gals of “waste” so it’s not a big deal to drain it after each rain or whenever you want really

I will probably modify my inlet to do something similar. Great ideas!

4/20 Reefer madness! I’ve been working the last two days all day, piping, setting, pressurizing, evacuating, wiring, venting, ass kicking this AC unit for my house! Dual stage condenser 17 seer, with a 80% furnace ecm drive. I’m excited to see lower bills this summer, it replaced a 12 seer unit from 2001! I still need to get a condensate pump and finish the flue pipe, I won’t be cold here until November, but this week it will be in the 90s

Question for all of you DIY'ers. Does anyone have a rock/boulder retaining wall built or build it yourself? I am about to tackle this project next week. I have almost all the prep done. My question is about rock size or mixing them. I went and picked out 4 or 5 boulders for the tall side of our wall. Its going on a slope and the tall side is roughly 3ft while the short side will be around 18". The wall will be about 50ft long. The landscape supply company recommended some boulders for the bigger part. I am a bit worried in the size difference. Here are a couple pics of the Black Basalt we are planning on using. My idea was to place the boulders on one of the flat'ish sides and stack the smaller rock towards the front of the boulder. Then just cover the back of the boulder up with some 3/4- and back fill with soil.

Originally I just wanted to use the "wall rock" size. They are not lite and the uniform size seemed like a better idea.

    Any input?

You might be able to do 1 or 2 big stones to break up. However moving and setting it might be a different story. I had a company send in a triaxle with 22 tons of stone and my mason just picked thru it. Broke off what he needed to make it fit. I personally like the stones to be the same size.

And thats dry stacked right? I have been waiting for 2 days for them to call me and let me know what the boulders weigh so we can adjust the tons of smaller rock. I just found another company that is equally as close. I may just call them tomorrow and talk to them. Originally I was planning on 12 tons. If there was any extra no problem I have another 40 something ft wall I have to build later. Unfortunately the harder one has to go first. This was the first person that told me I should use boulders and smaller rock.

If I use the boulders I have to get a mini skid/ditch witch to move them... I mean that would be helpful with moving the gravel and the soil as well but isn't necessary for those two.

These are cemented in the back. So nice flat face stone. And then larger stones in the back with cement in the middle to anchor it down. Stones in back or the stones used for scraps or rounded stones that didnt fit with the front

Ahh ok that makes sense. I didn't see any mortar in the joints so I thought maybe dry. I just talked to the wife again and we decided that mixing the two wasn't what we wanted. So after opening a few window tabs and looking at various pics of both sizes we decided against the boulders. So I will cancel those and stick with the smaller wall rock.

This company has a bunch of great examples of what we were planning on before getting derailed from the supplier.

Finished up my little "behind the house area." I collected a bunch of 100+ year-old brick a few years ago and I've been using them for the last couple of days to make walking pads around the house and to make mini flower gardens. I took a bunch of broken ones and used them to make a border around some unruly rosemary. I can't wait to be done so I can do some more planting.IMG_1429.jpg IMG_1432.jpg IMG_1439.jpg IMG_1438.jpg IMG_1442.jpg IMG_1441.jpg

Ripped out old, in with the new 100% PVC. My first deck ever and came out ok I think. Lots of rookie mistakes but lessons learned for the next one.

I ended up spending another few days and doing double the poly coating on the floor. Cost another $160 but figured better safe than sorry since it will get pretty beat with the tractor/mower/quads going in and out.
It’s officially dry and I started moving my junk back in today.

Took a few truck/car shots - it will never be this clean again LMAO :D

Theres too much weight behind the wall to be dry stacked. Thats a nice stone not sure how high you are going. Motor is usually used just to bind them together if you dont want to see it on the face.
